JP vs Julien or Made'n AK

Which u reckon i should go for? which will be more versatile, which will be easier to move around in tight spots, stableness ect... also i ski groomers getting to pow and getting to cafe thats about it. Both seem similar but i'd like some opinions from people other than the armada rep who said that the Jp's are alot more versatile that you would expect.

I've skied both and find the Made'n to be a bit more versatile due to it's sidecut.

The JP's are lighter and easy to maneuver.

    Can't go wrong with either.
I've got more suits than Liberace, but less than Eastvailhucker.

AFAIK the Made'n has a lot more sidecut that the JP vs Julien.

    137/108/127 vs 126/103/116

The JP vs J is touted as a more stable ride because of the lack of sidecut.

Nobody cares about that anymore. It's turn radius, camber, and taper angle nowadays.

can someone explain what the turn radius means. like a turn radius of 20m compared to one with like 30 which has more sidecut? I guess with lower turn radius u get bigger turns and more speed, and with small radius good for tight turns?

Speaking of which, one of my best chuckles of the pow weekend was seeing the 50ish guys demoing Maidens and other extreme graphicked skis. If someone had told me 20 years ago that Eddie would grace the skis of a just-shy-of-retirement accountant, I'd have asked them to pass the bowl.

189 madens mounted +4, +5 will make you a happy camper. They still carve on soft groomed snow, and aside from their girth are fun in the pipe as well. A good, solid ski. The JP v. J. does really well in powder due to its lack of sidecut. I did not find the armada to inspire as much confidence on harder snow and it took work to get it on edge and rail.

I have 189 Madens mounted 0. Great for powder but once it gets cut up I prefer a stiffer ski. They barely tolerate groomers and it is a soft ski and will flap at mach speeds. FYI, the Maden feels very much like last years Seth Pistol regarding flex. Not a one quiver ski if that's what your goal is.

Mounting +3 will make it turn quicker and still float well. EG, I have 189 SV at +3 and they rip.

im thinking Jp as long as the sidecut is not extremely restrictive out of pow. are they good for big mtn too? or do u need more sidecut for that? and are the carvable so are still ok on groomers( need to go down em to get to cafe every now and then)

Yes. Colored edges are so futureschool. Trust me.

Yeah, what Vicious said. They're all twinned, so you can skibackwards to your hearts content.

I have 179 Maden's mounted at 0, and was shocked at how well they carve the groomers for such a wide ski. Certainly not a race ski, but I expected horrible performance on the runs and was pleasantly surprised.

And of course they rock in the pow...want to try Sumo's though, 'cuz I'm a gear whore.

JP's don't want to turn much on groomers. If you do, get the AK's.

i dont care about groomers, just pow and big mtn and all around stuff which u could call big mtn but no new snow like chutes,cliffs,basins,steeps.. im leaning towards JP's as the armada rep here is super cool and i feel i should support him. skis seem pretty much same and the turn radius is only like 8m different anyway.

Is sidecut bad for big mtn? i thought i'd b good as u need to make quick turns to aviod obstacles on big mtn lines at times.

    I'll stop this thread soon

That is quite possibly the WORST reason I could ever think of to buy a ski.

    I'd go with the Maden's

You should buy Fischers, because the graphics are based on Maori tribal graphics from New Zealand. That's way better than supporting the rep.
