Records in surfing are an inexact science. Taking measurements of who surfed the biggest wave of the year is very challenging, as you can’t just go out there with a measuring tape. In places like Nazaré, Portugal, huge waves can be a dime a dozen on big days – so it comes down to inspecting details on photos or in video to determine what was truly the biggest. Big wave rider Nic Von Rupp chats about this season in Nazaré and gives some interesting insight into the process of figuring out who went the biggest.
