Nathan Florence Struggles to Paddle Out at Uluwatu

Surfing isn’t always the graceful and glamourous activity it is often made out to be. Lulls between sets can be long, crowds can be hard to manage and paddle outs can be downright treacherous. Take this video for example. Nathan Florence is one of the best free surfers out there, and he still struggles for almost twenty minutes to get outside of the whitewash on this big day at Uluwatu. The tide pushes him at least a quarter mile up the beach, and despite his consistent paddling, the waves kept him from moving very far out. I commend Nathan for sticking with it though, most surfers would have turned it around and gone in after taking this kind of beating. Hope his sesh was worth it once he got out!
