VIDEO: Gnarly Whitewater Kayaking on Hawaii’s Big Island

Most Hawaii-bound vacationers show up to the islands hoping for high temperatures and clear skies, but not Dane Jackson, Kalob Grady, and Kaelin Freidenson. The trio of paddlers were instead hoping for a rainy spring on the Big Island which would swell the island's numerous rivers and waterfalls, opening up never-before-paddled river sections and drops.

Luckily, the rainy season delivered, raising flow rates and allowing Dane, Kalob, and Kaelin to kayak spots that they'd had their eyes on for years. One can easily imagine that the historically rainy spring put a damper on at least a few vacations, so it's nice to know that at least one crew was stoked to wake up to daily torrential downpours.
