With most summer camps canceled this year, it’s been a tough few months for parents to keep their kids busy. That’s where The North Face’s Summer Base Camp comes in, with lots of virtual camp time hosted by their roster of all-star mountain athletes, like Jimmy Chin, Ashima Shiraishi, and Hilaree Nelson to name a few.

TNF’s Summer Base Camp is a free camp created for curious explorers who love a little mess, teaching campers of all ages how to find adventure at home. Each week, Summer Base Camp will launch three new educational, hands-on, fun-filled activities for campers and parents to complete at their own pace at home, with activities guided by the team’s athletes.

WEEK 1
THEME: Local Exploration
There are always new things to discover, even in familiar places. This week, we focus on exploring and learning more about the world right outside our front doors.
7.20 ADVENTURE PHOTOGRAPHY WITH JIMMY
Campers join photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin for a crash course in snapping epic shots and learning to make their own pinhole cameras.
7.22 GEOMETRIC DESIGNS WITH NINA
Climber Nina Williams teaches campers about natural formed patterns and shares how to create a masterpiece with items found in the backyard
7.24 SNACKS TO PACK WITH ASHIMA
Who’s up for a snack attack? Campers head to the kitchen with climber Ashima Shiraishi for tips on making healthy (and delicious) trail-friendly treats
WEEK 2
THEME: Natural Wonders of the World
From Everest, to the Grand Canyon, to the Amazon Rainforest – campers will learn that no matter where they travel, they can use skills learned during this second week anywhere.
7.27 MAPMAKING WITH COREE
Ultrarunner Coree Woltering teaches map making and other handy navigational tricks for getting out (without getting lost)
7.29 SURVIVAL SKILLS WITH MANOAH
Campers circle up with climber Manoah Ainuu to learn sic essential skills for surviving in the wilderness
7.31 BACKYARD BASECAMP WITH HILAREE
Ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson shares what it’s like to climb Mt. Everest and teaches campers how to build (and pack for) at-home base camps.
