Most people take trails for granted, which sort of makes sense because a well-built trail almost seems to be a natural feature, spontaneously erupting from the dirt for us to hike and bike on. But trailbuilding is actually a complicated, backbreaking, and often thankless endeavor, generally undertaken only by a committed few.
