Ruby J is fearless, bold, and most importantly the role model Brooklyn Bell always wanted. As a young black woman in action sports, Bell never found herself reflected in advertisements, films, and ski/bike magazines. Her solution to this lack of representation came from art. With her drawing tools, Bell created Ruby J, a badass skater who wasn’t afraid of any challenge. Having this role model to lean on gave Bell the strength to be unapologetically black like her, and find her voice within this industry. Now Bell is sharing her story in this latest documentary with Patagonia, and advocating for more black and brown voices within the outdoor community.
