Well, the short answer is: training. For recent Jackson Hole transplant Stephen Mulherin, chasing a vertical dream turned out to be tougher than anticipated. The 24-year old’s mission is pretty simple: run up hills and try to be the fastest one to do so. He balances life as a full-time river guide with 14+ mile runs after work and competing in the town’s many uphill races like the Rendezvous Hill Climb at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. He currently holds the third fastest time on the Grand Teton at 3:00:24 car-to-car. Will he complete his goal this summer?
