It’s one thing to free climb a big hard route in the mountains, but it’s something totally different if you start the route from sea level on the coast. That’s exactly what The North Face team athlete Fernanda Maciel did with Naranjo de Bulnes, a massive limestone spire located in the Pico De Europa mountains in Asturias. She wanted to run from the coast, so she plotted a route starting in San Vicnente De La Barquera that covered over 90km and 6000 vertical meters to approach the climb. It took her 13 hours, and then she still had to climb a 500-meter 5b route to the top of the peak.
