IKON Pass Expands to Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon

When it comes to ski resorts, it all seems like one big game of monopoly. Solitude's world-class pow skiing is now a part of Alterra Mountain Co and the Ikon Pass. Ski Utah photo.

Vail Resorts made headlines earlier this summer when they acquired Steven’s Pass, Crested Butte, Okemo, and Mt. Sunapee, bringing their total to 17 different resorts across North America. They’ve been on a spending spree in the past few years and have shown no signs of slowing down. Their CEO, Robert Katz, reported to Bank of America that he believes there are more opportunities for acquisitions in North America.

Well, it’s Alterra Mountain Co.’s turn to make a move, and they scored big. A few months ago they announced that they are acquiring Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah, bringing the company to a total of thirteen different resorts. Now they have just announced the addition of its neighbor, Brighton, to to the IKON pass. Passholders will now have access to nearly 10,000 acres of terrain in Utah between Deer Valley Resort, Alta, Snowbird, and now Solitude Mountain Resort and Brighton Resort.

"Brighton Resort is excited to be included in the Ikon Pass and honored to be part of such a premier group of destinations. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for Ikon Pass holders visiting the Wasatch Range," said Randy Doyle, President & General Manager, Brighton Resort in an Alterra press release.

Important notes for passholders:

Unlimited access to Solitude Mountain Resort is available on the Ikon Pass with no blackout dates, and unlimited access with holiday restrictions is available on the Ikon Base Pass for winter 2018/2019.

The Ikon Pass offers 7 days at Brighton with no blackout dates and the Ikon Base Pass offers 5 days with 10 blackout dates. (Dec. 26-31, 2018; Jan. 19-20, 2019; Feb. 16-17, 2019).

Alterra Mountain Co. is behind the Ikon Pass, which provides unlimited access to 12 different resorts for $999.
