Novice BASE Jumper Falls 500 Feet to Death off Idaho Bridge

It is unclear what went wrong. A BASE jumping expert is examining Czyz's parachute. Parkerjh photo, via Wikipedia.

34 year-old Kristin Renee Czyz's fifth BASE jump off Perrine Memorial Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho last Friday ended tragically when her parachute failed.

Nearby boaters immediately began CPR, but emergency responders pronounced the Canadian's death on shore soon after. While being relatively new to BASE jumping–she had completed approximately 40 BASE jumps in her lifetime–Czyz was an experienced skydiver.

Alongside Czyz's family and friends, we celebrate her life. BASE jumping takes courage, and that's something to honor. This vibrant lady clearly lived life to the fullest.

Czyz's death is the first this year at Perrine Bridge, a renowned BASE jumping site that's open year-round and doesn't require permits. This time last year, 73-year-old BASE jumper James E. Hickey died after lighting his parachute on fire, falling the 500 feet into the Snake River.
