    JH in March?

Some friends want to do a Spring Break trip out to Jackson, and they are trying to rope me in. Im a little leery of the $1200 price tag for airfare, lodging, and tickets. Beer and food are on me. Considering I did a week in the San Juans for around $800 last winter (In January) I really dont know if that much money is something I should part with.

Is Jackson Hole for a week towards the end of march worth $1200??
[dk_ak] : they don't lke it when they see my lil dingy
[dk_ak] : i tell them it is just a tug boat

    Not last year.
We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open.

Nope, not last year. It sucked. Honestly, Vermont was better in March than JH last year.

If I knew what the weather was going to be like in March I would be a rich man. I am not a rich man.

#1 - you never know what the conditions are going to be like planning this far ahead. Last year it was crap but this year could be blower.

#2 - If you are concerned about spending that kind of money, don't. You can't afford it.

No way to tell if the resort will be good but it's always good somewhere around here then. You just gotta find it. If you're b/c skills are solid and the resort isn't worth the $$$, go for a tour. You will find good snow.

Its not that I cant afford it. I have a good paying job, I'm (for all intents and purposes) single, and I dont have to pay rent because my parents have a sweet place they let me live in. However, I do worry about spending $1200 to ski "meh" snow when I know I could be going earlier in the season.

And I'm fine with crashing on floors, where as these people want a full on condo.

Was there this last year March 11-16 and it was boilerplate in the morning, ok midday, and a foot of slush in the afternoon. Was there the same time 2 years ago (06) and had 5 days of waist deep pow, deeper in some spots. Like everyone else has said, total hit or miss.

I know you said you're not worried about price, but if you want to stay in a tiny ass cabin (Cowboy Village) and hang with a bunch of college kids, the ski club I run will be there Mar. 17-21 with cabin/4 days riding =about $380. Definitely more like sleeping on floors than a banging condo, but I had to throw it out there.

    $1200 is NUTS!!!

I'm seeing flights out of Boston for $420 and you could stay at Hostel X near the base for about $20 a night.

Ever been to Jackson Hole? If not when is the next time you’ll get to go with a group of friends? If the price isn’t that much of a concern, then do it. While you should be able to pull it off for less than $1200 if you really want to, it’s only money. You can’t take it with you when you go.
I’d hate to drop a Warren Miller cliché on you, but sometimes it fits.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere.

Heh, yeah. Guilty as charged. I(we) will make up for it this next year.

That was a fun day at the Ghee. I was really surprised at how much snow there was compared to the Village. You could have easily skied for another month at the Ghee while the Village was toast.

Or three...even this year, the lowest snow year pretty much in 20 years, and you could ski top to bottom at the Ghee until may.

JH has a lot of southerly facing terrain. I would suggest heading further north or find a hill that has mostly north facing slopes. You can never tell what you will get in March though. It could get cold and snowy. As long as the sun don't shine - it could be killer.
