So sorry for the loss. As I read the replies one of my adopted best friends could tell I was sad, and he put his head in my lap. He feels it too.
You know he had a good, but short life, and I hope you'll have the desire, and courage, to find another good friend in the future.

W,
Very sorry for your loss, but very stoked that you and Zane were able to share so many great adventures. The wonderful words and the fine photos will keep the memories fresh.

I am so sorry that Zane died. It's obvious how much you loved him and that you guys had many great adventures!
One thing you might want to do with your wife is rent the movie "Three Wishes," it's a little cheesy, but a very moving story of a dog who touched many lives. I would have never watched it ("family" films are a genre I normally check out), but the person who hit (and killed) our much loved border collie, Smitty, sent it to my family with his condolences. Strange, but it did help a little bit, you might want to check it out.

Rideit, I just saw this thread and I want to say I'm very sorry about Zhane.
He looks like such a beautiful and happy dog, and I can see you two had a lot of good times. My heartfelt condolences to you and your wife.

oh shit.
Zane ruled absolutely. Skiing with him was SO fun. Having him over was always a joy. Remembering poor Zane trying to dodge Shiya when she was a puppy by refusing to leave the safety of the fireplace hearth still cracks me up.
Never did you ever tell me any dog advice besides "If you want a perfect dog, get an elkhound". Just today as I got back into the valley after being away for a few days I thought "We need to take Shiya and go play with Zane".
I hurt, I can't imagine how you feel. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.
Zane was one handsome boy. The lifestyle you shared with him and the love you both got out of it shouldn't be squandered. I'm sure it's very hard to think about right now--and no other dog will ever replace Zane--but when you are ready consider sharing your love of the outdoors with another dog. It'll help you to move on and Zane would approve.
Loki and I send our condolences.

I never really lost anything in my life until my dog, the one my avatar, died about 8 months ago. I think of her all the time. The most comforting or meaningful comment anyone gave me was that "I loved her right". You sure did too.

I'm so sorry RideIt. I'm in tears just reading your post and looking at the beautiful pictures of Zane. I love the ones of him chilling on the bed with your big furry kitty. I know it hurts so much, and I wish you the strength to get through this tough time.

You can tell a loved and loving dog when you see one, and Zane looks sooooooooo loved and so happy. Oh shit, I'm bawling looking at those pictures. He looks really happy and pampered (which is how I think all dogs should be).
Looks like you gave him a terrific life.“Within this furnace of fear, my passion for life burns fiercely. I have consumed all evil. I have overcome my doubt. I am the fire.”

Well, he WAS the ring-bearer at our wedding...
(Surely that duty counts for bed priveleges!
Wait...that sounds...uhhh....nevermind...)
And one more for the ladies

Vibes man. There are no words that could possibly ease this ... but just know that ".... this too shall pass." Collectively we share your pain.

And it gets weird....
I just found out that one of the girls that helped Rachel carry Zane down from Mud Lake is the person that I SHARE MY DESK WITH AT WORK.
....she didn't know that I was married to Rachel, and had never met Zane. Holy freaking weird. WEIRD.
My Co-Worker watched my dog die, and my wife basically disintigrate.Last edited by rideit; 06-04-2007 at 05:03 PM.
