    Good but not perfect.....

    A) don't mix "the Don" , just cause it's expensive means it's good in a marg(it's kinda a waste)
    B) you need more ice (and possibly salt if your prefer it)
C)"the perfect margarita" is not made with a mixer, even if it is freshies..
    D) It should be enjoyed on the beach with a hot hispanic lady, not your dorm-room sink while not with said hot hispanic lady

But I have to admit I wouldn't turn one down

What tequila would you recomend? Youve got a point about the waste thing, but I love me some Don Julio.

Also, too much ice and it gets watered down too quick. Salt Im fresh out of, and who has the time to squeeze limes?

Sauza Tres Generaciones, the silver or reposado are great fror margs, the anaejo is good for them as well in a snifter. They are more choice for awesome tequila in general.

I really like hornitos in a marg. It's not so high priced that you feel like you are wasting it mixing with all that sweet stuff and it has really good flavor.

I used to bartend at this place where people were always mixing patron with margs just because they had money to blow. I hated that shit!

You gotta drink it before the ice melts and it gets watered down! Seriously though, a good marg is always made with as much ice as you can get in the glass, this keeps it cold and makes it a stronger drink (because the alchohol to mixer ratio is less) When you shake it really well it's supposed to chill the drink well enough that it is close to the same temp as the ice and will stay that way longer.

Your mix is a good choice to. I like to add a little sprite to mine just to bring down the taste of the mixer cause most of them are to powerfull but freshies is very well balanced...

Just so you know I'm drinking a 12pack of busch light right now, so I really have no right to rip on your perfect margarita.....

Ditch the rita mix and make your own. Limes are cheap and really don't take that long to squeeze.

I'll put another vote in for Patron Silver. Hornitos is also not a bad choice for a "cheap" 100% agave tequilla.

Agreed to all don't waste the stuff that is good straight (which a lot of tekillya's are) Patron Silver is great for Margs. Don't waste the Grand Marineir (sp?) on margs. That should be straight up (use Cuontreu or whatever just not GM (personal like to GM straight). Add a lot of ice and use a lot of fresh squezed limes w/ your mix and it will be good. Just remember a lot of alchohol w/ the above will make everyone happy. The main key is balance - taste a little tequila with an awesome finish.

sidenote. Worked way too many years behind a bar to know this kind od stuff

Hornitos is an awesome everyday margarita, with the high end one like Tres Generaciones, I like to use a medium of marg mix, to not lose the flavor of Tres Generaciones.

Tipp is right. For the $, Cazadores is tough to beat. Also, Cabo Wabo Resposado makes a great drink.

Personally, I like an 1800 frozen 'rita with no salt, and a topper of Cabo.

1800 / Sauza Tres are both solid choices. I've never understood using top-notch liquor in mixed drinks. Blasphemy. Like A1 on a filet mignon.

I prefer a splash of Cointreau to the GM and for the love of God....Salted rims are for the same people that put fruit in beer.

Herradura silver, Cointreau and fresh limes and plenty of ice, and salt. Very relaxing.

I prefer cheap tequila in a marg. Also, rather than sour mix you can mix fresh limes with white grape juice eliminating all the corn syrup. You'll feel better the next day.

I always saw it as the opposite - those who can't deal with salt on the rim are the same that put fruit in their beer.

The original margarita recipe called for a salted rim, according to Esquire Magazine:
The margarita cocktail was the "Drink of the Month" in Esquire magazine, December 1953, pg. 76: [4]

    1 ounce tequila
    Dash of Triple Sec
Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon
Pour over crushed ice, stir. Rub the rim of a stem glass with rind of lemon or lime, spin in salt—pour, and sip.

I'm getting a hangover just reading this. Has anyone ever noticed that after a tequila night you can taste it when you brush your teeth the next morning?

That is SOOO damn funny. I am mildly hungover at work right now due to the exact same ingredients in the picture (except i used a different cheaper(but not cuervo cheap) tequila). I was gonna use my own mix but I went with the freshies insted. First time...they make a pretty good marg!

I spent a lot of money at the liquor store yesterday. Grandma isn't cheap. But it sure does make the margarita!

I am a huge fan of Patron Silver in margs, but was wondering if anyone mixes tequilas in a margarita. Maybe using a shot each of Silver and Reposado instead of 2 of Silver? Might give it a slightly mellower flavor without giving you an oakey tasting mixed drink, no?

This is the recipe I've been working with so far:
    2 oz Patron Silver
    1 oz Grand Marnier
    2 oz Key Lime juice
    tiny pinch of sugar

Don't brush your teeth. Problem solved.
