    Silvretta Pure Freerides

I have a pair of Atomic Janaks mounted tele, and I'm thinking of ripping the tele bindings off them and mounting em with AT bindings (they're mounted to far forward for my tastes, and I'm not sure if I want to/ am able to redrill with hammerheads just to move the mount back an inch or so) . The silvretta pure looks to be the best combination of weight/ high DIN, and though there was a thread with basic information on them late last summer, nothing new has been posted. Soooo, does anyone have any thoughts?

With HHs, just drill two new holes and reuse the other four.

My wife has this binding (Silvretta Pure Freerides ), but pivot point is all wrong for tele turns and the toe piece doesn’t work with the duckbill.

yeah, I agree, some people seem to love this binding, but so far, I'm not sold. As of right now, I prefer my older world pistes w/ R8's for powder, as I feel like I'm constantly in danger of going over the handlebars on the janak/ HH combo, and I have no Idea as to why that is.

silvretta's seem to be pretty solid and a great bridge from the dynafit to naxo/fritschi world.

hucking anything bigger then 10ft seems to be a big , at least in the shops I've talked to. I don't think there is much personal experience on durability becaue those going big are gonna get naxo's/ free rides.

If you're looking for "normal" skiing and a light weight package. it doesn't seem like you can go wrong...
I think telemark pyreenes have a good deal on these...

but would you really advise hucking much on the fritschi's? I gues they are a little burlier..

But in General, Hucking big cliffs in New England is asking for trouble anyways.

I was seriously thinking about getting them to mount on some bro's.
I think you'll be all set with them.
If you shop has one mounted, then pull out a tape and measure the toe and heel height. I think the pair I was looking at had a negative delta angle. (toes higher then heel). Might be an odd feeling if you are used to say a look binding where the heels are def higher than the toe.

what's the rumor about silvretta's not working with alpine boots, is this true? i could understand the lighter models not being compatible, but the freeride ones?

The Pures look like they would work with alpine boots, they have a toe height adjustment and whatnot. I can check the multi-lingual novella that came with the clamps for an explicit warning.

I started that thread, based on the ad copy at backcountry.com
    http://www.telemarkskier.com/cgi-bin...c;f=1;t=001720

Garmont told someone it will work.
Others said there is too much slop, and the toe does not twist out.

I have a pair of these on bros that I have been riding all season. They are a kick ass biding for the weight. I dont do a lot of big huckin although I would say I ski w/ a charging style. I have the dins cranked down to 12 and have not prereleased.
There is room for improvement on this binding. There is some tortional instability in ski mode.
They are not super easy to get on. You have to really stomp down and you cant just reach back and manually click in. This may be din affected as the Mrs. doesn't seem to experience this w/ her pures.
The brakes while wide enough are not long enough esp on highly chambered bros.
These minor faults aside why drag a Damir or Naxo up hill all day when a binding ~ 1/2 the weight will do the job, w/out special (ie Dynafit) boots.
It looks like atomic is going to release a binding that looks almost identical to these next season.

That's because it is the same binding - Atomic bought the rights.

    this is second hand info
but I saw a guy a Copper with pure freerides on a pair of MtBakers. Anyway, I dont know this guy or his level of skiing, but he was 300lbs (by his own admission) and said they were sturdy enough for him considering he "skis pretty hard". He had mentioned that he had also heard bad things about torsional rigidity, but didnt much notice probably because he only took those skis out on softer days, and methinks too because he weighed so damned much he was already flexing the binding enough to maybe preload it a bit and remove any large noticable slop.

dont know if that helps anyone, but thought Id chime in with what i heard.
