If that doesn't get your attention I am not sure what will (and not limited to those that were there). Some really fortunate folks. And how's this show going to roll if the 20 - 40" prediction materializes? Yikes!

Holy shit. The track upper left where someone center punched it from the ridge is wild. People have officially lost their minds.

Thanks altacoup and wra for the background details and eyewitness account.
The potential for speculation here is infinite. My bet is to cut down the trees to manage fire hazard, establish White Pine snowboard exclusive resort, and reinvigorate the state's moose ivory trade.

Kathleen Reibe is the sponsor, so I don't think it's that kind of angle.

Still can't see shit.

The main goal of Kathleen’s bill is to address the road. Her husband was the Alta ski patrol Director for a long time. Bill would essentially bar all non essential and non lcc resident car traffic from the canyon and move it all to a bus system.

Anyone got a reservation for Alta Friday they’re not planning to use? Buddy and I are driving down from Calgary on Thursday, managed to get a Saturday reservation, but still looking for Friday.

dtm - that forcast has canyon shutdown/massive delay written all over it on sat imho.

snowbasin will be all fucking time. I guess the only saving grace is the blackouts from pres day weekend.

god dam it's cold out there.

Plenty of parking options at the bird. Just ski over to Alta.

This is our backup plan, but I’d like to avoid that as I’d rather not take a spot from someone actually planning to ski the bird that day.

So, gondola cockblock, interesting. I don't see anything that extreme ever getting traction, though.

LOL Questionable if Mineral will be open on Monday, especially how Slowbird opens terrain.

Obviously all speculation, but asking the experts. If the latest forecast holds, are you expecting a Thurs night -Friday AM canyon closure or a Friday PM - Sat AM closure in LCC? Landing at 10pm Friday night and trying to see if we need any contingency plans

my guess is fine Friday til' the evening Red Snake. Canyon Closed Fri Night, total gong show til' Monday. Good weekend to go to Snowbasin and Deer Valley IMO, unless you have accomodations up canyon.

Staying up at the Bird and taking Canyon Trans to get up there so locked in to that option., just hoping we can make it up there before a Friday late night closure. I miss the old 5am closures .

Good luck, I hope you make it up.
Would suck to not.

Canyon fucked me once, because I was the only confirmed late customer and charged me triple.
Never told me ahead of time and wouldn't refund my single to rent a car.
Only used the Alta shuttle after that.

Talked to Riebe. She's holding the bill, it won't run this session.

Wasatch 24/25-Stoke, Conditions, and general debauchary

Here through Monday. Thinking bird on Friday which should be okay getting up I hope if we leave real early. Have some questions for the locals.

Is LCC or BCC more likely to close (Friday morning)? Seems like the bulk of the storm is coming Friday. Could go to solitude instead if BCC is more likely to be open.

Saturday the issue is one of our group has ikon base, so we need to buy a day pass for him. Don’t want to go to solitude. OpenSnow shows a lot more snow up LCC than SnowBasin, but would suck to buy a day pass for Snowbird in advance (have to buy twenty four hours in advance) and not be able to get up there. Could still dip to Snowbasin if that happens, but F&F discount doesn’t apply day of

How likely is it we can get up to snowbird Saturday morning if the storm plays out as predicted? Does it usually matter if we leave super early (5-6am?) and wait in the car/lodge?
Could play it safe and go to Snowbasin, which I’m sure will still be great, even if it has less snow

How about some TRAFFIC STOKE - they just put on the traction law when it's not snowing!

And general stoke - I am pretty excited to ski some deep pow. Also, despite the limited deep powder days this year, the skiing has been so fun. The graupel storm skiing last Friday was some of the most fun I have had skiing in a long time. I think the term "free refills" is generally bullshit, but given the way graupel pools, Friday was actually free refills.

If they do a LCC closure it will probably be from midnight - 8am or later, so even if you leave at 5am your going to sit at the bottom of the canyon for hours, and the way this season is going they're also not going to open shit for awhile at the resorts. (Not a dig at patrol, it's just a tough season with the snowpack) Solitude seems to be the worst this season for opening stuff. FWIW I was up at Powder Mountain yesterday and had it was skiing excellant, and I hear SnowBasin is doing good too.

So if I was a gambling man and wanted to ski Snowbird, I would try for Friday or Sunday. The storm is starting out from the South, so the winds won't load up the big LCC slide paths right away + people are still working/ school Friday. Saturday will be a junk show, and there will be a lul in the storm Satuday afternoon-Sunday, so Sunday should be a good ski day + new terrain will get opened.

muggy -

make sure you give your base pass person shit for being a cheap ass and making it a pain in the ass for everyone (unless it's the stupid season pass add on thing where you can't upgrade to a full)

I'd guess no LCC or BCC closure Friday.

but beyond that no one really knows. If i was a betting man and based on forecasts there will be a sat AM LCC closure. Midnight - ?? , 5am - ?? who knows. Idk about full interlodge but with an unstable snowpack and a fuck ton of heavy at first snow it could get interesting. Obviously i'd love to be wrong.

Snowbasin is going to be an absolute madhouse on Saturday (if canyon closes). Every person will be doing the same exact thing you are doing in addition to all their season pass holders. Terrain delays on opening, lines like you've never seen. It's skiing but it's not like you have much choice here.

perhaps bird passes are refundable if road is a clusterfuck? There has to be some precedent online/call them?

the play here? no clue. good luck.
