On the topic of kids - I have an old friend with daughters ages 3 and 6 coming into town from Georgia, and he wants to take them skiing. Any idea where we could find some inexpensive snow clothes to use for the weekend?

It looked like it opened up in the apron, and it did, except for that one tree. Came around the bigger tree uphill and instantly knew I going to hit it. Smelled pine fresh for a run.

Look at all these tracks on that face. Easy to fall into the trap of seeing that and thinking it's safe

Since no one seems to be dead I'll armchair QB this:

    -Complex snowpack with multiple instabilities
-3 inches of SWE received in prior two days
    -Fatality two days prior
-Numerous large natural avalanches observed the day prior
-"Considerable" hazard rating on N through NE aspects

WITAF were people doing on Cardiac today?

I’ll just throw this out there. The person who triggered the slide in Cardiac works as an avalanche professional. And didn’t call Alta central to report the slide, causing rescue services including his co workers to mobilize.
I knew something was going on when I saw a bird patroller run out of hidden peak with a dog. Skied out blackjack and saw him headed to powder birds and five sheriffs and Marshall show up.
The snowpack is absolutely crap right now. Two PWLs, last week there were multiple days with no freeze, followed by a large graupel event and high winds.

I was there. Way off to the side, didn't like the up track. Seventh skier, looked like he was eighting another set of tracks. About six in triggered the slide and jetted off, luckily in the correct direction. Can't load pics. WPG landed and I told the guide no catch and carry, pointed out the guys track beside the slide. Ran into a group at the base who said they'd called it in twice.\

An adjacent group called in the slide to Alta central. Group that triggered slide called into a “friend”.

Trigger was solo. Trail breakers were goup of three. Did two laps. Slide took out all earlier tracks. Long gone when the slide happened.

Thanks for sharing the sobering and educational account of what you saw WRA. So glad nobody was hurt. Looks like there was another close call up in white pine too. :/ Sorry for the loss over the weekend and vibes to the crews involved in the rescue and recovery. Complex for sure. And potentially more snow on the way.

This was introduced on Friday. It isn't gonna go anywhere, but it's an interesting discussion none the less.

Hey all, apologies in advance as I'm coming in late this Friday night to do my part in contributing to the touron holiday weekend shit show with the groms in tow (curse the kids school vacation dates). Will be staying up at the Bird and bouncing between there and Alta through Thursday if anyone wants to make some turns , share a deck beer and / or crash the Cliff pool w us while waiting out the red snake.

Will have to work hard to make sure 11 year old Duff Jr understands that some of the lines he was stoked to hit the last 2 years in April will be slightly spicier without a 200"+ snowpack [emoji16]

So, what's the play here? Gondola roadblock? Reduces barriers to tolling and other fee collection?
