Not great, but Smith has an amazing warranty. I’m sure they’ll sort you out.

Keep the lenses, send them the frames, they'll likely send a Smith.com credit for enough to get brand new goggles, and you'll have extra lenses for them. That's how it played out for me for a similar, failed plastic, problem.

I’ve done a few Smith warranties and have never had to send stuff in. They asked for photos of the item destroyed before giving a replacement credit voucher, though.

Well that's all the better. Used to be they'd give you an RFA number and mailing label, I suppose they eventually figured out it would be cheaper and easier to eliminate sorting and handling broken stuff.

Any idea if they would warranty straps that have lost their elasticity? I have a pair with perfectly good lenses with blown out elastic.

I have never had them not warranty something. They have sent me new liners when I've bought used helmets.

Too much. Top of their line.

Warranty process initiated. We shall see, but even if they replace I'm not happy with the construction. It's cheesy. Will break again I think.

Same thing happened to MMP last Thursday at Magic....

Seems like their QC is questionable. Smith helmets give me a headache so I use Giro helmets/goggles. Really like their lenses (made by Zeiss).

Appears to be a theme happening here.

They want pics of the lens scratched with an X and the strap cut. Then a refund will be given.

Is now normal to complain on-line before applying for warranty or should one wait to see if they probelms with getting warranty ?

Do you have Smith tattooed on your ass? Of course they'll warranty it, but how about just making a quality product that you don't have to warranty after the first minute of using the high-end, high-dollar product. Hence, the title of my thread...do better!

I know it’s standard, but its BS to trash a product just because one part of it failed.

yeah I'm pretty sure Smith did it on purpose just to fuckup your day and actualy I have a different corporate logo which was worth $$$$$$

but my point would be does TGR really want to see you create a new thread for every product that broke or that you broke BEFORE warranting it ?

I have actualy seen a whining thread as oposed to just applying for warranty and getting on with life influence how an issue gets handled

I can understand them wanting him to trash the strap since that’s what’s supposedly broken, but ruining the lens makes no sense at all. Why wouldn’t they want you to keep the perfectly good lens.

instead of getting a bunch of busted product sent in they are sending buddy another one based on pictures sent to someone in a cubical , a cut strap and a scratched lense means that goggle can not be submitted for warranty again and the customer has a new product ... end of warranty issue

its pretty standard, I have got warranty on 2 pair of blunstones, you send picts, they ask you to cut out the elastic side panels and the pull-on tabs, show them the picts and a new pair of boots show up in 3 weeks

oh yeah, do better Blundstone ); !

I had to do a warranty with both von zipper and dragon. Neither required me to destroy anything. I just had to submit pictures of the damaged items. Got to keep everything else and got new lenses in both occasions.

no need to destroy everything. Again he was doing a claim on a strap. No need to destroy the lenses.

Been using the 4D Mags for years with no issues at all so my anecdotal info says that Smith has already "do(ne) better"

I was gonna say please don't commit warranty arbitrage with photoshop because that's why we can't have nice warranties. But destroying the lens is wasteful so I'm not gonna say anything

I used to like driving old cars and running linux cause I could fix anything that broke. Then I realized I prefer stuff that doesn't break. I'm at the same place with Smith after having to warranty multiple lenses each of the last few years.
