back from a camping/kayaking/fishing trip to my favorite desert lake in central WA.
no bites, no strikes, no bumps, no hits: nothing, absolutely nothing.
other anglers confirmed the same ....
flower bloom taking off and birds everywhere.
I scoped out a lake chain for future trips.
They were all dry and dead ....
.
hey, pictures are back!

Been in CA for a few weeks doing a bit of work and some fishing in a cement pond with sky blue dyed water and lots of eager large mouth bass. Thanks to a few coaching tips from Harry I have landed a few 4 to 5 pound fish on streamers.

I started out, this afternoon, by scouting an area I hadn't tried before, it looked promising, but I didn't get a bite in a short while, which was more than my patience could bear, so I headed upstream.
As I reached my first target area, a big fish hit the surface loudly, followed by another slightly quieter big rise nearby. Unable to get a bite from the big teaser fish, I slid upstream a hundred feet, and was greeted by the onset of a hatch of BWOs. A small, but pugnacious and pretty, rainbow confirmed my suspicion of what they were snacking on.
Then I caught another slightly bigger rainbow.
After catching another smaller fish, and seeing that they had stopped rising, I decided to move on up to a big log pile, I got an aggressive take on a large parachute Adams (I was using it as an indicator for my smaller BWO patterns). I had to climb down and over logs to land this loverly brown trout, who bent the hook, but not enough to get off it.
I continued up to the area I'll call "big bend", on the way the sun had come out, it seemed to kill the surface feeding, but it was pretty.
I thought to myself, "Self, I betcha if you put on a nymph rig you'd have a better chance of getting another fish." So, I tied on a brown Pat's rubberlegs with a flashback BH pheasant tail, and was happily surprised how soon I got a healthy cut-bow, not huge but strong, which was awesome; I really wasn't expecting to catch another fish.
A bit later, another, very much smaller trout, also went for the pheasant tail. I was pleased that I'd found a productive nymph on the first try. Having moved up stream twenty feet or so, I got a strike right after the bubble hit the water, I yanked it, and hooked into this guy. I was seriously humbled by the abundance of fish by then, lucky seven.
I caught number eight of the day, slightly up stream, not much later, it was another small cutthroat. Hungry and back aching, I decided to head back to the boat ramp, via the spot where I'd scored with dries earlier, and I was truly grateful to catch a ninth fish of the day, alleluia.
It was a very good day, I started out cranky and anxious, but I sat down for a while, and prayed to have help being patient, and to not start hating myself when things weren't going well. My mantra was, "Don't freak out, just fix it", and the day went great from then on. Amen.Last edited by Rasputin; 05-08-2024 at 11:08 PM.

Musky season still 2 weeks away, but got out today with the pro musky guides from Hayward today for some smallmouth action. River of choice was the famous Flambeau. Stealyurface & I fished it a year or so ago, but today we were about 50 miles upstream of where steelie & I were. Great river, absolutely gorgeous. I think we put 6 fish in the boat, 2 of them mine. Caught one subsurface with sink line and a murdich, other one topwater with floating line and a boogle bug. We also saw a sturgeon which was very cool.
