Salomon QST Echo 106 Mount Point

Just had my first pair of QST Echo 106 skis in 181cm arrive that I've ordered in for a customer. Going to mount with ATK Evo's.

The top sheet has a mount line for alpine/Shift and then another at +1 marked MTN.

I've never mounted a tech binding further forward than an alpine binding and can't figure out why they'd recommend that. Customer has queried it with Salomon UK and they were useless. If they were mine skis I'd go with the alpine/Shift line.

Anyone have any time on these?

The idea is that alpine bindings are more direct/powerful than touring bindings, so moving back will let you drive the ski more since you have more binding to work with. I’d just go with your gut though, i think the lines are -8/-9 on these so if you like directional go with the back line and if you like progressive go with the forward line

I went on MTN line, given that I ski my regular 106s at +1.5.

Hats off to Solly. This echoes what Marshal been stating in various Heritage Labs threads. Gentlier power input from softer touring setups -> more fwd mount point.

Same. It feels good. That 181 skis longer then it should and in a good way

Mine are on MTN line, Jon - with the bindings you sold me. I thought it was perfect and Ptex1 recommended that spot. Great first pin binding experience for me.

No thread-hijacking intended, but I‘m still not sure which bindings to mount for 50/50 inbound/touring. Tecton/Vipecs are out - bad experience with both. I‘m between Atk FR, Dynafit Rotation or Shift.

Are you talking about the Echo 106 or QST 106? Or both?

Got it, just wondering because the post you quoted refers to the "regular" 106. Which I have and I don't particularly like how they ski on the line. Maybe I'll go +1.5. Or sell them before they're swiss cheese.

Well, first day on the Echo 106 181 (got a great deal from Ptex1). Mounted Duke PT 12s on the forward line (MTN). Loved 'em from the first few turns. Exactly what I was looking for in that they are a little lighter but still seem damp enough and solid. Easier on my knees, which is starting to become a priority. I just don't want the swing weight of heavy skis anymore, especially as a DD. Conditions were variable, two inches of cream cheese on soft groomers and off piste was pretty hardpack underneath. Loved how they carved on the groomers and felt they handled the hardpack just fine. These could be my new favorite skis for a lot of reasons. Looking forward to getting them into some powder.
