Do we have a thread for ski movies? If we do I couldn't find it. That's kinda how we all got here, right? TGR Films
We've got a thread about The Fifty, as well as Nikolai Schirmer, but I just keep finding other cool stuff. Some are short documentaries, some are full-length movies, some are instructional videos, and others are just plain foolishness like GNAR.
Today I found Eager To Learn by Kajsa Larsson, about the Stora Syltraversen, a long traverse in Sweden. I really want to go to Sweden and Norway.
Some other good YouTube pages worth checking out...
Salomon and Dynafit both have good instructional stuff for backcountry skiing, as does Backcountry Access, with lots of great avalanche information. Jones Snowboards has a bunch of tutorials, as well as avalanche awareness videos. Owen Leeper is always a hoot. Go Pro, Natural Selection, The North Face, and Red Bull have good stuff. Stomp It Tutorials has great how-to videos.
Sherpa Cinema's The Fine Line is a really good avalanche film geared towards younger people, but great for us old farts too. A Dozen More Turns is a documentary about a backcountry skiing avalanche accident in 2005 that everyone should watch.
There is also a ton of cool old ski history films on YouTube. I'll add some of those to this thread soon.
And Amazon Prime Video has some great stuff, like Buried, the documentary about the 1983 Alpine Meadows avalanche, Downhill Racer, the Robert Redford Hollywood classic,The White Search about ski filmmaker Dick Barrymore, a bunch of Warren Miller stuff, Swift. Silent. Deep. about the Jackson Hole Air Force, and Tempting Fear with Bjarne Salen from The Fifty 10 years ago.
I will list some more stuff in here as I go through some of my You Tube history.
Post up good links to good ski movies that we should watch.
