Or just take a short jaunt up the river road with a couple beers and crash next to the Colorado. Wake up to complete peacefulness and head on your way east.

Walmart in Avon. Camp out in their parking lot. Walmart is great for that.

It's also illegal. Don't do that. Maybe keep your advice to VT.

At least rent something that you can stretch out in. A Therma-Rest air mattress and a compressible prima-loft bag are easy to pack. A six pack, some snacks, piss bottle, and a thermos of coffee for the morning you should be all set. Get a couple pies from Pizza One and you will have food for a couple of days.

Is that a Colorado thing or a municipal code for the town?

Also wondering about this. Wal-Mart parking lots are widely known for camping in their lots. That's how my brother who is wealthy but cheap as fuck gets to Phoenix from CowHampshire 3-4 times/year.

Avon Walmart does not own the property (thus the parking lot) in Avon, they are simply a tenant in the building. The property owners controls the parking lot, and has "no overnight parking allowed" signs posted.
Edwards has a decent CDOT rest station parking lot with clean bathrooms.
Avon Rec Center opens at 6:00 am for an $8 shower.

Wealthy white dudes love not paying for lodging. They love this so much that they prefer to buy $450,000 dollar overlander rigs that they'll never take anywhere that requires any actual 4WD just so they can skimp on $122 dollar hotel rooms and park in Walmart parking lots and festivals like Burning Man.

To be fair, the $122 option is a hostel like option and not a hotel room. But I’m warming to the idea.

Thank you for finally saying this.

Not sure about all of Colorado but most of the Walmarts in Colorado it is illegal to camp there. Always guessed it was local ordinances pushing folks to campgrounds

A lot of outdoor lots limit overnight parking for snow operations. Even if it doesn’t snow, cuz people will just abuse it and then yell foul when they get a boot, tow or ticket. Maybe Wally World has to keep it year round so we don’t turn into a tent city over the housing issues.

Is it really illegal to sleep in parking lots in CO? I thought that was just Florida.

Many municipalities have no camping ordinances. The constitutionality of those has and is being tested as technically you could be nailed taking a nap on a park bench.

I hear you and have no love for Vail. But this has been covered; some ski buddies are already going and it’s an easy in and out of EGE. Skiing with buddies is good for the soul.

I can't speak to illegal but I can speak to not welcome. I feel for the 10% of classy van owners because your habit is being ruined by entitled douche bags that know nothing about stealth nor respect private property.

Pro tip: its called overnight parking or camping whether you have 200k smugmobile or are homeless in an 84 Buick

I can't wait to go to the desert to check on all the Starlink RV set ups and WFHrs just basking in the sun radiating that air of superiority
