    Wide approach shoes?

Anyone have recommendations for approach shoes that have a wide fore foot and place an emphasis on hiking over all-out climbing performance? For things like ridge scrambling and OS on the Grand where you walk all day and climb very little. LaSportiva TX4 has reviews that say they are wide fit, but I found them too tight to be comfortable, even sized up half a size. I have a surgically removed mortons neuroma in my left foot and one in my right that I'm trying to manage without surgery.

Failing this, recommendations on hiking shoes that can climb a bit?

Did you try getting the TX4 wet and then wearing them for a day to stretch the nubuck leather out where you need it?

    I fucking love those shoes.

Think they'd loosen up that much? They seemed pretty tight. My big toe was also really close to the end, even sized up half a size. I wonder if it's worth trying one a full size up.
Bad thing is, if that didn't work, I'd probably be unable to return at that point.

I got a shoe stretcher on Amazon and stretched my tx2 for my bunion and length difference. It worked really well without having to size up.

I don't think I really "approach" things so I don't know what that means, but Topo Athletic shoes have been a gamechanger for my wide forefeet.

I have some Asolo ones that are wide. Looks like the current “Space” model but are a previous version. I have 6th toe bunions on the outside.

Hmmm, you guys have me wondering if I could add enough width to be comfortable in these.

If you can find some of the last iteration of Five Ten’s Camp Four, that was pretty roomy. Roomier for me than the TX2s. I think they’re discontinued, but you might be able to track some down.

Yeah, that was the shoe I used back in the day. I wish I had bought a few pairs.

Oh well. If you happen to wear 8.5 I have a pair I’ll send you that probably have one or two hundred miles left in them.

Thanks for the offer! I think I wore them in a 10 though.

I might actually have a few pairs kicking around in a size ten. Lemme look.

You can add quite a lot. The tx2 are leather. I soaked them in water and cranked the screws. Doing my SPD giro empire knit required a heat gun. I thought I would spend the summer in Crocs after my 400+ days ski season last year. Those stretchers made life so much better.

Rainier in one shot counts as 20 days

    Duffey triple crown 5

    Spearhead in a day 4

    Baker 3

    25km+ 2500m+ tours count as 2

Easy... I stopped counting by may.
