A loaded chair fell off the cable of a ~25 year old Doppelmayr HSQ at camelback in PA yesterday

Camelback is definitely high on my list of places I don't care to ever visit again.

scary. I think I may have skied there twice many years ago, because my back then new friends said the hill has very challenging runs. I'd say I do not have the urge to ski there ever again.

yikes! 35 feet is not that high (I know it's high for a fall but not relative to most ski lifts)
but holy moly might have been an even worse situation
Lift failure still frequently comes to mind on that high part on Sublette by Pepi's ridge....

IDK skied there maybe 15 times between 1988 and 2003. I learned how to turn a ski there. I also learned I never want to ski in PA ever again.

Graduated from Pocono Mountain High School in early ‘90 & have not been back.

Huh....really?....a Cardinal. I was an ES grad (89’). Area has really changed. Probably know some of same people/teachers/coaches if u played sports there.

My first baseball coaching job out of college was at PM with Billy Carter, Dale Johnson and Brian Kresge....spring of 94. Good guys...

I got booted from sports @ PM after going head:head w Rowan over an incident of a photohut employee distributing copies of our antics drunkenly raging in ‘his’ jersey....

Hung w tons of ES crew as I skied Shawnee bc it was close to the clinic I was interning at..... Bill Schmitt, Jamie ?, Racing Ray Raisin, Randy Dietrich.... wicked times.

Coached @ Shawnee for a bit. F’d w/ Hans & Joe lil too much & they punished me for (a theme perhaps...) macking on their Secretary, Amanda Decker. Made me teach ski school & do a photog shoot; immorality in the 90’s brochures, billboards & the phone book

Played soccer, basketball, baseball at ES.....yes, Ron Rowan...actually still considered a PM coaching legend...he was intense..retired a few years back. Still have a strong soccer program.

Skied at Shawnee as well....I was a local...went to elem. school with the Kirkwoods....(who owned all of Shawnee, Inc.)...until they all went to NDHS/studied abroad....we were all passholders/local idiots just ripping around looking for Jersey chicks from 7th-12th grade in the mid/late 80’s.....(somehow survived the all night skis they held at Shawnee.....lol)

Grew up with Law family (owned Starting Gate Ski Shop)...graduated/buddies with Chris.....who is now a longtime EC Salomon rep. (Damn we r old)

Lol...funny stuff....freakin small world. We are off a few years....but probably know a lot of the same people/families.

*Sorry boys for the thread drift.....not often you find others that admit they are from/grew up in NEPA....lol.

Back when I wrenched on lifts, I rebuilt a number of that style grip. At my mountain, they were fully rebuilt every 5 years, with minor rebuilds/ thorough inspections all the other summers. These have a main spring and a backup spring. The main had to test to a certain grip force, and then we forced the backup to engage, testing it at a lower force. If the main failed and the backup grabbed the rope, a lever stuck out that would break a brittle bar, stopping the lift. If the grip didn't grab the rope properly, it would hit a paddle on the way out of the terminal, again, stopping the lift.

I haven't had one of these apart in a few years, but I can't see anything catastrophically broken on that grainy photo of the grip. I do see the grip force lever sticking out, but the fall could've done that.
