Best material to take up volume inside a boot

Anyone have any recs? I have skied my Scarpa Freedoms for 60 days and the liners are starting to pack out. Sure I could replace em with new intuitions however I would like to save on some $$. I am thinking about using some single sided foam tape however was unsure if people are using anything else?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks gents.

2 pairs of socks.. Really though, just get one of those flat foam cut to fit set of insoles and put them between the footbed and liner. That will take up some space without doing much to the other fit aspects..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Ding, ding! That’s it. Get a Bontex Board for each boot. It should help if over all the boot is a little big.

I think you’re just trying to polish a turd. Get a new or lightly used intuition liner for $50 if you look hard enough.

I cut pieces of this pvc hose and ductaped it to the inside of the shell, i think its .6mm thick so i find that is thin enough to layer & conform easily to the inside of a shell

Instead of just making insoles you can tape it to the inside of the shell

if the movement is vertical, then a shim, under the footbed, and/or between the liner and the shell (on the boot board) is your best bet.

what is the shell fit like in the boot?

Six pack/half rack cardboard material works well in a pinch. Bontex can be hard to get fast and that’s when you usually need it the most.

Pro Tip: when you’re placing Bontex or any other type of vertical shim for volume reduction, draw a line from just behind the 1st met to the 5th met and cut. and trace a quarter to round off the edges. A full length shim can seriously reduce toe volume and can rock your world.

There’s no replacement for custom cut foam around the voids of your foot. “Ski boot foam” can be sourced from many different suppliers as it has tons of uses in industrial applications. Speaker box insulation comes in many different durometers and thicknesses. There are many different foams available on Amazon.

What size is your boot? I have some Intuitions that might work, if you want them. Cheap! No charge and no shipping since you're in Spokane.

I was using ductape but its a whole bunch of layers with not much effect cuz tape is so thin

so I found the PVC hose in my shop cut n taped pieces to the sides of the shell which was alot faster

HOO DAMN!! Thats a killer offer Bill, shell size is a 28.0. Those might be a touch big but that might actually work to fill volume. I'll send ya a text.

They should be fine in a 28.0 shell. I had them crammed into a 27.5 at one time with no problems. Unfortunately, couldn't get them into my latest iterations of 27.5 but you can give them a try. Should probably work, especially if you're having slop right now, anyway.

Yeah OP what is your shell fit like? I was going down this road and finally went down a shell size and got a bunch of work done. Until I did that I had the best luck with boot foam from Tognar and also filling space with old stock insoles under my good insoles. The stock insoles from ski boots and tennis shoes are basically just flat shims.

Overall I would describe it as a decent fit. Maybe 1-1.5cm of room behind my foot when I take the shell out (with toes lightly touching the front). Not much lateral play in the forefoot. I noticed that by the end of the Season I was needing to tighten my 2nd buckle down more that I wanted to for heel retention. I added a heel lift but plan to add a shim under the whole foot. Maybe some padding around the ankle for better retention (are those called J bars).

For the pads that stick to your liner I found the 3M 90 spay adhesive is the way to go. The sticker will wear out in less than a day.

Tognar has a variety of ankle wrap pads and also full sheets of the stuff to cut your own.

That a 27.5/28 T1 shell? Still in the rotation?
