After more consideration of our usage of campers, etc Mrs. LVS and I have decided that we're more looking for a cabin on wheels and less looking for a camper. AND with the fact I have a house that is a major project in and of itself, I am finding that I do not need a camper project in the mix.

Therefore we are looking at selling the Alaskan we bought and jumping back in to the Bigfoot/Northern Lite world. The Alaskan would be great for someone wanting a primary dirt road exploration/camping rig. It's super low profile, stable, lightweight, etc. With my F350 I don't notice it being back there. If we could justify owning 2 campers, we would keep it for that purpose. It's plenty warm for winter camping with appropriate clothing/sleeping bag (it is an Alaskan after all!) but Mrs. LVS isn't super stoked on that scenario after being spoiled by the Bigfoot we had before. If it was just me, I'd keep it.

    What I've got:

1962 10' Non-Cab Over camper. (NCO). The NCO thing is neat from the standpoint that the camper is very low profile when driving, and is fully sealed when raising and lowering it, unlike the cabover Alaskans. The 10' fits great in my '08 F350 with the tailgate down. Don't even notice it's back there.

    History:
I bought last summer for $1800. It's lived most of its life under a carport in Richland, Wa (desert/dry climate). It's very clean and doesn't feel all that old. No signs of rot anywhere I've poked around, which was one of the reasons why I went for it. Only minor leak I've found was around the roof vent but haven't had a chance to fix that yet. Guessing its from whatever sealing compound that was used has dried out. Have worked on it with my dad (who's a cabinet maker) a bit to modernize/restore it a bit. It has a stove, a sink and an ice box.

    So far/additions since buying it:
    • New Titan 2000lb Tripod Jacks on all 4 corners ($900). The original Alaskan jacks are deadly at best... and won't raise high enough for a modern truck. These Titans are modern, strong and safe.
    • New seals on between upper and lower portion of camper.
    • New laminate hardwood flooring
    • Through Cleaning. (About 40 years of dust in the nooks and crannies of this thing.)
    • All new aluminum trim to fully seal edges and corners of metal camper shell.
    • Runners along underside of camper to protect plywood from rot and to raise camper up to modern truck bed height.

    Stuff it still needs:
    New window seals.
Stove leak checked. It looks fine to me but I've never used it.

Things I had planned on doing to it, but didn't:
Add 12V power system. (Has 120v that works great! )
Plumb in a Mr. Buddy or similar heater.

I would like to recoup at least some of what I spent on it/time I've put in to it. So maybe mag price, $2500? (1 single 191 Billygoat?) I'm open to offers/cash+trades or whatever. Send me a PM. I posted one picture of it on my truck but will try and get a bunch of pics posted up soon, detailing all the work that was done.

    Haha!

Change your handle to "Waffle King Supreme"

Or maybe, "The Most Least Sure"

    Or... "Tried That, Too"

Or... "Honey, Didn't We Have One of These Before?"

    Or... "Skis, Guns, Squirrel!"

    yeah yeah yeah.

I'm a dreamer sometimes, and the more time I spend marching toward "real" adulthood, financial and practical realities seem to override those dreams sadly. The homeowner thing has sapped me of my extra time last year, and so far this year it appears to be doing the same. Every weekend spent working on a camper is now one less weekend actually getting use the damn thing. Because if I'm at home, the 22 acres of brushy forest and 2600 sq ft of what the fuck did I buy are starring me down.

It's made me humble for sure.

for the record about waffles: going to a larger truck was always in the game plan, so regardless of Alaskan purchases, the previous Bigfoot would have been sold.

Now, someone please buy my bitchin' retro Alaskan Camper, and go disappear in to the woods for weeks, only leaving clues of location via trendy Instagram filtered images of cool vistas.

Luckily you will be ready to buy a Bigfoot before me because I need your help going to pick up the best low priced find.
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

What's the dry weight in that? I'm guessing from the above convo that an F150 isn't enough truck?

I can't imagine its more than 1000 lbs. It's unnoticeable on my f350. I can slide it around in the bed of the truck. I think it'd be fine in an f150.

She doesn't care as long as she gets a warm spot with a soft bed and window to bark at people through.

Looking forward to the inside pics! Once out can you give length and box measurements so I'd know if it'll fit?

You should be able to seal up that roof vent in about 5 minutes with a tube of dicor from your local RV store. You're right to scrape the old sealant away, and dicor will finish the job and last for a very long time. Feel free to PM if you need any pointers.

Caveat: wear rubber gloves and have an old rag or paper towel handy. Once that stuff starts flowing it doesn't stop for a little while and it's both insanely sticky and gets on everything at the same time.

That rig isn't a terrible deal when you consider that the tracks themselves cost almost that much. And a lifted/locked 80 goes for $8-10k.

That said, for that kind of money I'd rather buy a nice thiokol spryte or imp. Way better performance in deep snow than any track conversion.

But nah, need a camper. Campering up at the ski area is essential to keeping my marriage healthy.

The Alaskan was the replacement for the BillyGoats if that makes any sense... Shouldn't have sold the 191s, should have kept them. Now I have to buy another pair....

I'm picking up the replacement for the the Bigfoot I should've just kept this weekend... a 1998 Northern Lite.

So someone buy the Alaskan please.

Naw. Old Bigfoot = 191s. Alaskan = SuperGoats. New Northern Lite = replacement pair of 191s I would have ultimately bought after being brutalized by the 202 supercocktwistergoats.
