ski carry on bicycle

I want to construct a way to carry my skis on my bike for short rides around town to the lift & the office.

I have an old mtb without a luggage carrier, and was thinking about putting a piece of wide(200-300 mm diameter) plastic drainage tube on it where i can just throw my ski's in, rather than ingenious strapping of the ski's on the frame. Pro's: can load ski's quickly (I'm always rushing to catch the first lift). Downsides: unstable constructions, since i dont have a rear luggage carrier, I was considering strapping the plastic tube to the fork, although this may influence the balance?

Surely some of you will have build similar devices? ideas? insights? Show me what you've got!

I always strap to the frame but the tube should be better. Don't go for the fork -> Bad vision and they might come close to your face when steering. BUT it seems it can be done without the luggage carrier:

Second Idea. Strap the tube to you frame to get the horizontal configuration.

Seems like it would interfere with the non drive side foot coming around?

This was just posted today to the Salsa site. Obviously you are not wanting or planning on a new bike plus custom bags. But it might give you an idea on how to attach to the back. Rack definitely required. Should be able to get something cheap.

We've always strapped this way, or AFrame on the pack if it was a combination of hiking and biking. SPD cleats on the boot mod... interesting idea... *starts checking gear bin*

I always thought the heel welt on the tlt6 was too small for frame bindings

A luggage rack is going to make this much easier. They can be found pretty cheap. Then attach either plastic pipe or a little wood frame you can slide the tails into. The wood can be built with a tighter fit so the skis don't rattle around as much.

There must be 20-30 bikes at the Gondi everyday.
PVC pipe seems to be the most popular.
