CBD oil to treat dogs arthritis

Anybody using cannabinoid oil or balm on your best friend to ease the creeks and pains of arthritis? I have been seeing a lot about this lately and am wondering whether it is valid. Mary’s medicinals has come highly recommended. I hear that the important thing is to have at least 97.5% CBD and less than 3% THC. Not interested in getting the dog high, just interested in taking the arthritic edge off.

Have you tried Previcox? It's a pharmaceutical but I works. I have one of my horses on it.

^^^ I'll ask my brother. He talks a lot about Bute, but never heard him talk about Previcox. Do they do the same thing?

My in-laws gave CBD to their dog when it had cancer and it worked wonders. Dog was supposed to have maybe 6-8 weeks and lived almost another 2 years! And was actually pretty happy right until the end.

Bute is for acute pain whereas Previcox works better on arthritic conditions. For long term use it is a better choice for horses as Bute can cause gastric ulcers.

I used the edible cdb treats towards the end of my ridgebacks life. Seemed to work but was pricey. There was a place on foothill that sold em. Local park city company was making em or importing em as I recall.

do you know where they purchased it? I am in SoCal and have a 17 year old arthritic dog...pretty much her only problem, she is as healthy as a horse otherwise

We used CBD oil for our pooch for about a year, the Pet Releaf brand. We started using it because the NSAIDs (Rimadyl) that he was prescribed were tearing up his GI system - lots of bloody poops. The CBD oil worked great for maybe six months, but then seemed to lose efficacy - we went to higher doses / more concentrated products. Not sure what to think about this because the literature states there is no tolerance effect for CBD oil's painkilling properties, but I guess he may be getting worse over time :-(

Anyway, after about a year, the dosages were getting so high that it was cheaper to go back to Big Pharma. We started him on Gabapention and tramadol about 2 months ago and it seems to be working better than the CBD oil was at the end. I still like the idea of a more natural remedy, so could see transitioning back in 6-12 months, but for now, we're feeling set.

The other thing that helps a lot for our guy (big dog, 75 lbs) is taking him off pavement for his walks, but where we live we can't always make that happen.

BTW, note that the pet CBD oil products are made from hemp, and should have 0% THC, so getting the dog high is not a concern.

I have also heard good things about pet releaf. I am not sure whether that one is only sold in dispensaries. The one that I have heard the most about is not pet specific. It is called Mary’s medicinals cannabinoid oil CBD transdermal gel pen. It has 100 mg CBD and 2.65 mg THC and the pen is 50 2 mg CBD doses

You might give this stuff a try, you can get it on Amazon. Two of our dogs are older and creaky/sore. One, the glycoflex has been like a miracle, he's literally running around like a puppy again, it's been amazing for months now. The other one there seems to be no effect at all. For $30 it's worth a shot I'd say.

Thanks for that rec, I will give it a shot. He's been on a glucosamine / chondroitin supplement for awhile, but the one you suggested seems to have some extra goodies, so worth a try.

No, definitely Home made. My Father in law tends to know what he’s doing in that department after many years of experience. ;-)

I should add that it did have thc and there was some dosage experimentation early on... but of course this dog had cancer and not arthritis.

I’d provide more info but was really just an observer and don’t know anything too specific other than seeing the obvious (good) results.

I'm having good results with this, as my dog's hips are grieving him. But I found a cyst on him yesterday and he is now on Rick Simpson oil that I make. CBD doesn't do much without THC. I don't think there's any diff between oil for dogs and oil for humans. My last batch of oil knocked my neighbor's cancer out for over a year after eight solid years of intensifying progression. He only ate a few doses, which is all Simpson says it takes. Check out his youtube videos.

Play with the dosage a little bit, it's weight-dependent. Our Bernese mix is about 75 pounds and 3 a day does him well. The other dog is a straight-up mutt, about 50#, I experimented with up to six a day and still no effect. I still give her a couple because she likes them and maybe it's keeping her from getting worse, it can't hurt at least.

This stuff is amazing. My dog couldn’t get up our stairs prior to giving her this on the reg. I’ve tried CBD but couldn’t see much of a difference.
