For night walks/hikes, I just use an old Tikka headlamp around my pups neck.
Although I don't think the dogs need any light, it's great to make sure they're visible to cars, or when hiking off-leash, I can see where they're going.
I ride MTB with my dog at night frequently and like these.

I leave it on his collar all the time.
I'm not using it myself (neither for me nor for a dog, having none ), but one of the first impressions after moving to Munich is related to it.
In the first weeks I used to ride to the work with the bike along the Isar river bank.
It was still dark in the winter mornings and there where humans taking their dogs for a walks.
The humans often didn't carry any light so the only thing I could make out in the dark while approching was a blue or green LED dog collar floating in mid air above the ground.
We use a cheap light for cycle commuters to put on their backpacks. Works well enough for walks in the dark, not sure about skiing though.
Collars are hard to see so we've been giving our little guy a spritz with this. About 2 minutes in strong light before we head out and he stays visible for about 45 mins or so.

I have this one for my yellow lab. Easy to put on/off, stays on in all activities, easy to cut to fit. Made by Nite Eyes.

Ive been wondering how a bright light around their neck affects night vision. Our garmin e-collar flashes a green led every 5 seconds or so but also has 2 very bright white leds that i can see from several hundred feet through the woods.
Then theres the cheap clipon things in various colors that take watch batteries. SIL insists on purchasing those.
I used these for my dog. Cheap as fuck (both price and durability), but the light pattern was impressive and noticeable.

Your dog just ate an avocado!
We had a clip on 2 years ago, and no natural skiing last year. The old one worked well, but the switch was recessed, and needed a tool. It doesn't have to be super bright- just so I get the idea that he is around.
Anubody know how bright lights affect doggie vision?
We have a red one that attaches to our dog's collar. It was a gift. I always thought that red does not affect night visions for dogs (and humans).
+1 for the old headlamp around the neck. We've tried a lot of the blinky LEDs and find they're not very waterproof so they corrode quickly and stop working.
We have used these for years with the pooch on anything from getting out of camps late at night, to biking, to just winter walks in general as the sun goes down at 5:00. Cheap, replaceable batteries, and clips onto existing collars and leashes. Has both a solid and a blinking setting, and colours to match your red ski boots.
