    Helmets for big domes

Currently have an older Giro Revolver helmet that is on its way out. Looking for a replacement.

I'd wear a 7 7/8" fitted hat usually, +/- a little depending on how long my hair is. Really though, I'm looking for a 'deep' helmet shape. Most that I've tried on are the proper size, but they sit way up high on my head and don't look great.

I have a fairly large head ( 7 5/8" hat size) and the only helmets that work for my head shape are Giros. The new Range MIPS looks pretty nice but I don't need to upgrade just yet. IIRC Smith also makes some of their helmets in an XXL size, so that might be worth looking in to.

My hat size is 7-7/8 with a shaved head. My 7 y.o. XXL Giro [not sure what model] fits fine and not too high with the thinnest pads and DIY mod of shaving a cm or so off front so that helmet didn't push my goggles down on my nose. The mod may not be possible for a helmet with a brim. Be sure to try on goggles when you fit a helmet.

Not sure on what a 7 7/8" fitted means, but my measured head size is 59cm, pretty large, deep head. I usually have to undo snap-back hats 2 pegs. Smith size Large fits me well for a snug fit without a beanie under. I'm using the new Maze MIPS (girl got it for me for Christmas, was only $80 on sale at REI).

I'm 7 7/8" or 59-60cm and the Smith Variance in a Large fits me appropriately(snug) without any hat. I have a deep shaped dome.

I am in the same head-the-size-of-a-watermelon range. On a whim, I tried a Salomon Prophet on and it fit like a glove. I had not planned on buying a helmet with a Reebok Pump style custom fit, but if it fits it fits. I hadn't been planning on buying a helmet at all. It's the best fitting helmet I've ever owned and I don't feel like a bobble head in it.

I'm more of an oval than round shape in things like motorcycle helmets if that helps at all.

Thanks for all of the replies.
I tried on some Smith options maybe 2 years ago and couldn't find anything that fit... so they are a no-go unless they've made significant changes since then.
The current Giro I have fits and feels great, it just "balloons" a little more than I prefer.

That's me too. A little bit narrower from side to side but longer from front to back. I think that's the main issue with fitment.

    59cm = 7-3/8

Interesting, I wear a 7 7/8 in a fitted hat but my head measured just under 60cm.

truthfully, it's as much about head shape as size. I have had size L fit me in Giro but an XL in another brand felt too tight because it wasn't shaped like my head. No substitute for putting a lot of lids on your head.

I picked up a Smith Vantage last year to replace a POC helmet to get better ventilation. Love the adjustable fit for my large head size, adjustable vents, and compatibility with a few different goggles I've used with it (Smith and POC goggles).

POC XL worked for me with my long narrow head.

Used Sugru to make small bumpers along the sides to take up the space and then put padding on top of the sugru (leftover from a bike helmet) - this eliminated any side to side slop. If the bumpers end up too big it's easy to shave it down or shape it.

Did the same with my bike helmets.

Not sure how that affects the helmet's ability to protect my noggin but seems better than having a head strike knock my helmet off.

Giro Edit. More for the round heads.
    Aggressive in my own mind
