    X5 or 6 on the ME7s
I'm on the newest version, the ME702, (the army green ones) and they seem to fit slightly tighter than the previous versions. (A good thing)
Also, the whole Shimano shoe to pedal design thing is real. These shoes paired with Shimano spd platforms are amazing. It's almost hard to not click in immediately.

Using Shimano AM9's for my first clipless shoes, speed lace system. I like them, stiff enough but great to walk around in (which I do a fair bit of), seemed like they would handle that better than the ME series. Normally I fit Five Ten better (use Freerider Pros for flats) but at the time I could not find Kestrel lace or Boa in my side. I use Boa on my road shoes (also Shimano) and love it, but I've hit my shoes a bunch riding and was worried about breaking the Boa mechanism off on a rock... the speed lace on AM9 gets my shoes plenty tight, and I sized down a bit for performance so it doesn't take much anyway.

I’ve got the Giro Ventana and the Chamber 2.

I feel like I should basically be using the Ventana exclusively, but I keep coming back to the Chamber 2 because it fits better. The Ventana is noticeably lighter and cooler, so mid summer I’m definitely in those.

Supposedly both shoes share the exact same shank and cleat tracks but have different uppers. The Ventana is much thinner and lighter and hence fits a little bigger. I’m also convinced my Boa migrates loose during rides but that could be in my head.

I'm running the ME7 (all black with grey lettering....these are not the newest ones?) with Shimano XT Trails SPDs.

I definitely notice how much easier it is to click in than any other shoe I have used before with the same pedals.

That said these things still hurt my feet if if I have to hike a bike a bunch like the last enduro I did. Heel slide for sure when HAB, but it doesn't cause blisters cause they use some weird neoprene like heel material. I really don't think one shoe does it all for all people.

If the heel box is a little tighter on the latest ME7 compared to mine I may have to try those.

I'm on my second iteration of Pearl Izumi's; wife and I have both been fans with two pairs each. I now have some X-Project Pro's, courtesy of volklpowdermaniac, that have been great.

Even in very recent reviews (https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/sh...l-shoe-review/) I’ve seen no mention of a fit change. Anyone have a link to something official?

I run HT T1 pedals, which are Shimano ish, and yeah the clip in is easy and nice.

Ok found info at singletrack world. The new me702 avail in Sept:

Volume+ last with extra toe-box volume to accommodate comfort in wider range of foot shapes without affecting shoe length. Enables ultra-wide range of feet sizes in sizes 38-50.
I believe this olive version is available now? Saw it on sale at Masherz

I'm also a fan of PI's offerings. Currently on the X-Alp Summit. If the fit is right for you they're awesome. Feel great pedaling and HAB very well, too.

    Strictly a subjective feel.
I've been on ME7s since they first came out, replacing them every three years or so. These do seem to feel slightly tighter than previous models.

FiveTen Freerider Pros. Ive never felt the need for anything more even riding 25 mile 5k days, to bike park or shuttling, dig/ride days, to afternoon XC laps at the state park a block from my house.

Giro Terraduro was a good thought but fall apart hikeabiking.

    Shimano are typically durable.

I’ve settled on the PEARL IZUMI X-Alp Summit after good luck with past X-Alp whatever shoe.
Not a fan of anything BOA but deal with it, wish they still had more Velcro options.

Basically the only reason is I like PEARL IZUMI is fit and the flexible toe area for steep bike pushing. A full stiff shank feels like watching a drunk lady fall on her face at a wedding while fist pumping a bottle of champagne.
So the world is filled with tubular entities. Food goes in one end and shit comes out the other. Sperm goes in and babies come out.

I'm so pissed the x-project shoes are gone. The X alp Gravel shoe fucking sucks. The sole is flexy and the upper is made from tissue paper.

We're currently in the process of redesigning X-Project. Unfortunately, in won't be available until 2024.

This thread is about shoes with cleats, not flats

I'm a big fan of Specialized shoes. I've been running the same pair of lace up 2FO Clips from 2015 and they have held up really well. Really durable outer material and reinforced toe box for when you smash your feet. They are definitely not as efficient as some of the ballerina type XC shoes but you can actually walk in them and they don't fall apart after a few crashes. I've used them for everything from XC races to bike park laps. Some friends have also liked the 2FO Cliplite shoes with the BOA closure system

They've changed the line up around a little but this is closest to the ones I've been running:

I know the previous designer Tony well. It really was a ground breaking shoe but had it's issues at the start.

Reassuring as I’d almost clicked buy on some
X-alp Gravels. I was confused that PI didn’t seem to be selling a premium MTB shoe anymore, but xtr’s beta makes more sense.

volklpowdermaniac hooked it up for me with the X-projects. 10 days of use and he only asked $35. I can make it past 2024 no problem

In case anyone is looking, found quite the stash of Giro Terraduros (buckle and lace w/cover) at Habitat in Driggs, ID. Had a stack of various out of date Giros for $50 a pair. I bought 2 pairs and my wife bought a pair. Hoarding. Had petty good range of sizes.

Old thread bump . Any thoughts on Shimano ME5 vs Specialized Recon 2.0, assuming fit is similar with both?

I can't comment ofn those particular shoes but I doubt spesh & shimano are gona fit the same,

I have dumped a couple pair of shimano cuz they are TOO loose thru the instep

while spesh are tighter heel, tighter thru the instep/ wide thru the toe box

I have a 3 pair of spesh for this reason

I would have thought the same ,but I have them both here now , the ME5 in a 46 and the Recon 2 in a 45 based on their chart, and the fit is surprisingly pretty spot on in both with a few issues in both.

On the ME5 the right foot (my longer one) is perfect, but the left foot has a little pressure at the medial bottom of the ball of the foot. It's not terrible but it feels almost like the arch bend starts a little early and / or I could use a mm or so more width.

On the Recon the left foot fits perfect, but there is a slight pressure spot at the top of the big toe met head ,but this seems like padding that will likely pack out. Also maybe could use a tiny bit more length but not an issue.

Clearly the solution is to ride with a Recon on my left and an ME5 on my right. But since I'm not going to do that, and don't want to mount cleats yet so I can still return one of these, I figured Id see if anyone had any opinions other than just fit since I think I can make either work. These will be for SPD XT trail pedals .

No experience with those shoes but if you think you could use a little more length while trying them on in your living room, you'll be hating them a lot on a long hot ride.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air
