    Another Fission devotee here.

I've had a LOT of insulated jackets, but the Fission is by far the best. A light layer underneath, and you're good to go.

I haven't looked at the article yet, but I like an insulated jacket for lift-served skiing. I can throw on a thin layer or two under it, open the vents and get air closer to the core when I'm hot, and then zip up when I'm cold for the lift rides. I almost always choose a shell when doing something where I never stop moving, but when I'm going to be sitting 1/3 of the time or more, I think insulated jackets are convenient.

Depend where you are skiing, insulated is awful at a place like Whistler, especially since there is often in bounds hiking/side stepping/trees involved most days. I do prefer insulated when around Banff where it is cold and dry though.

Bump. I'm looking for a new inbounds insulated hard shell. I do have to hike a bit (Bridger) but I already deal with that and would rather wear less base layers and vent.

Arcteryx Stingray and what else should I be looking at? Used is fine.

Stoic Bombshell insulated if you can find one. Great jacket, but discontinued.

Maybe the OR white room. Love my vanguard and this years is same. $275 for large new in GS. Breathes but it's like adding a layer. Used all last season and held up in whistler sleet
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Insulted Powder Bowl? Got used one for next to nothing that I used more than expected. Hood works well for a zip off. Its warm but not a parka. It's pretty well sorted in general. Fit is huge.

I wear an Arcteryx Kappa at Big Sky. Insulated plus shell is Gore Windstopper. Breaths way better than GoreTex, which is not needed at Big Sky IMHO. Might be to hot if climbing.

I used to have an Arcteryx Stingray, great shell but it is not insulated. It is a cool fabric, soft and flexible, with a very small amount of fuzz that their website says acts as insulation even though it doesn't.

That black one for $150 is going to be the best new deal you'll find that meets what you are looking for.

Are the shoulders and delts really tight like most other Stoic gear?

Bombshell is only Stoic gear I've had. It fits me the same as any other jacket. No weird fit issues.

I have a Patagucci Primo Down that I picked up on SAC for ~250. Great piece for lift service cold days. I can vent through pit zips and quickly dump heat and cool off. Much easier to regulate than venting a shell w/insulation layer below.

I only wear a light base layer under the primo down as it is so warm, I can only remember one day that I wore a R1 under the jacket and I was toasty, Full price is stupid and its tough to find deals but its a great jacket.
