    Boise Info-Places to Eat/Things to Do--This Weekend....

The woman and I are headed to Boise for Thanksgiving and we were wondering what people recommended and things to see/do/eat. We are only going to be there Thursday-Saturday but we will be coming back so keep the replies coming. Didn't see much after searching so I thought I would post my own thread.....

As far as Hotel, we are going to stay at the Grove Hotel Downtown (awesome deals over Thanksgiving). After looking at maps it looks like there are many places to walk to from there (food and shopping). Good choice or??

As far as dining, I have heard that Goldys is the place to go for breakfast and Boise Fry Company has the best fries/burgers. Any other good local/small chains that are good? Tex/Mex, etc. She may want to go to PF Chang for one meal but we will see...

Also, any other things to do places to see? Good outdoor shops, etc?

    THANKS!!!

It's a long walk from downtown but the Ram brewery has good eats and good beer! Multiple TVs for your college viewing pleasure. Look for the Ram at the corner of Broadway and Myrtle/Park.

Excellent food and drinks at the Bittercreek Ale House. Its on 8th between Bannock and Idaho.

As far as gear stores, you'll have to drive a little. The Eco Lounge on Bogus Basin Rd. caters to the freeride crowd and is pretty cool in my opinion. If you are more traditionally oriented just look across the street from the Eco lounge to Bob Greenwoods Ski Haus and McCu's. They all offer decent selections of gear and soft lines and all the staff seems to know what they are talking about.

Bogus actually opens on Turkey Day, although only the front side. Not quite a WROD but the experience will be somewhat similiar. Just bring your bike helmet and mouthpiece and you'll be alright!

Also, I almost forgot, go get a pork sandwich at Bar Gernika. Its at Capitol and Grove St.
    More cowbell!!!

Bar Gernika is a great little Basque place-one of my favorite places to eat and it's across the street from where you are staying. Go for the lamb grinder and croquettas (the most awesome mix of chicken/butter/onion/potato fried into little balls of goodness. There will be free shuttles from the downtown area to the stadium. The tailgating scene is okay, not what you would see in Missoula or Bozeman but decent. The Ram is a good place for the game. The End Zone is a smokey college bar if that is your thing-tough to watch the game there. The R Bar across the street on Broadway has a bunch of flat screens and 75 cent Raniers. Harry's and Parilla in Hyde Park will have the game. 13th St. The owner of Parilla is a Bobcat.

Out side of the game, for eating downtown:

Breakfast-Goldy's (going to be slammed), Moon's, the Capri (hangover land), Big City Coffee House (on grove st.) and various coffee shops.

Lunch/dinner-Falcon, Bittercreek, Bardenay (all similar menus). Front Door has good pizza. There are a few places to hang out on 13th St. in Hyde Park.

Outdoor shops downtown-Idaho Mountain Touring and McU's. Bogus Basin Road-Eco Lounge, Greenwoods, McUs. Plenty of running and bike shops too.

Bar scene-all over the spectrum. Really depends on what you are looking for.

Tex/mex-go see Juan at Amigos on State. Boise is lacking really good Mexican.

Almost everything I mentioned is within 1-1.5 miles from where you are staying. Really, the Ram is a 10 minute walk from the grove so not that far.

I'd offer to tour guide but I'm headed south to see my folks.

I stayed at the Grove a couple of weeks ago to watch my nephew play hockey and had a fucking good time. Ate breakfast at a place called Le Cafe de Paris (gay name) but had the best egg sandwich of my life, all I remember is it's down by the capitol. Oh and you might want to head out to The Knitting Factory on your last night to see "Defenders of The Faith" a Judas Priest tribute band with "Blistered Earth" a Metallica tribute band warming up, for $6.00 there is just no way you can go wrong.

Thank God for the Basque people or Boise could degenerate into complete strip mall dining purgatory. I know there are some good places around they are just hard to find.

I have photographed several wedding receptions at the Basque Center and and these people know how to party. The men love to drink, the women love to fuck....oh wait you are with your wife-disregard....and they make great and interesting food.

If you want to get a rise out of the locals go into any bar and cheer for Nevada. Should work.

Conundrum - thanks again for the special delivery. at the rate I am going this is multi year supply, but necessary. And Happy Thanksgiving to you and lojack too.

hey loj - do those guys play all the time there or? me would like to see, but not sure when..

For the record, the backside of Bogus opens Saturday. And there are a couple little places in Hyde Park (head north, or towards the hills on 13th street from downtown) that are nice local hangouts to watch the game and have a little food & drink: Hyde Park Pub, Parrilla Grill, 13th St Pub.
Shut your eyes and think of somewhere. Somewhere cold and caked with snow.

the Boise plans got axed in the fall but we are headed down this weekend.....anything going on in town worth checking out?

    Where should we eat/shop, etc?

We are trying to decide where to stay...either the Grove Downtown or the Candlewood Suites at the Town Center....

Any other recommendations would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

The Modern Hotel in the Linen District is pretty fun...check out their website. They have pretty decent food, too.
