    DESPERATE ITBS Sufferer!!!

Help! I have been dealing with ITBS for two years now. I have been to numerous doctors, had a cortisone injection, and have been to countless physical therapists. Additionally, I have taken 6 months off of running and nothing has helped. Stretching, hip strengthening exercises and foam rollers haven't helped at all.

Sometimes I can run 2 miles before lateral knee pain hurts and sometimes it happens after 20 steps. As soon as I am done running, the pain stops. Literally, the only times I have pain is running or sitting for more than an hour.

If the top of my knee cap is the 12 o'clock position, going clockwise, the pain is in 8 o'clock position.

I started taking ART from a local chiropractor, but I can't afford to keep doing it. He said he has helped serious runners, which I am not so much. He advised that I do not stretch anymore because it is only causing more damage for now. I have heard so many conflicting things that I don't know what to do anymore. I would still appreciate any advice though!!

Is foam rolling painful if you roll without supporting yourself with anything but your arms? If so, there is benefit to continuing it.

Look up IMS, dry needling. I had a stubborn ITB problem, not as bad as yours, but foam rolling, massage, pt, nothing worked until he pulled out the needles. It isn't acupuncture, but it uses needles. I was much better after one treatment, totally healed after the second. Good luck.

There's a clinic near Stanford that specializes in it. My
Friend's ex went there and they did extremely painful manipulation, and she's still running. The other thing I would suggest, in spite of being a practitioner of modern medicine, would be IMT, or Integrated Manual Therapy. These people work miracles when it comes to injuries.

I can attest to IMS. My PT used it to help get some of those lateral muscles to let go and she's also been using it on a wicked case of tennis elbow I developed this summer and it's really making a difference.
