Ha ha, classic Monty Python reference...took me a while to figure that out.

Ps. Rip.....you might be a bit too thin skinned for this place. We all shovel shit back and forth just for the fun of it. Weak or stale threads are fair game for threadjacks. You were the one who started by drawing distinctions between snowboarding and skiing jackets. Throw out a slow pitch like that and it is gonna get smacked. I ride...but have you ever watched the TGR series? It's 90% skiing dude, we aint on home turf here. We challenge each others thinking (and patience) cuz unlike the New Schoolers, we can actually think. Somewhat. If we choose to.

The choice is arcteryx or cheap chinese crap, unless they moved to China too, in which case, its all cheap chinese made crap marked up 90% over production costs.

And what is up with some of the graphics on snowboard jackets. Worse than the day-glo retro goin on in ski wear. Ugly isn't cool. Lately guys been looking like Jackson Pollack took a shit on 'em.

some good choices- arcteryx is absurdly overpriced and not as plush as patagonia

Yea, the jacket I got for $380 now costs $550! Thats because the U.S. dollar went to shit against the Canadian but the chinese are holding down the yuan to keep us buying chinese. If they let their yuan float, we'd all be getting our clothes from from Goodwill.

I like Arcteryx better because the downhill gear(not the climbing) is the most ripstop fabric out there and I can't stop crashing into trees and brush. The effort of climbing out of tree wells and brushpiles provides all the warmth I need.

686 gear is pretty good. I was also really impressed by some of the Sessions gear I bought. I think you'd be happy with either brands quality.

i pretty much go strictly patagonia... as far as the fabric being rip-stop and the jacket itself just being fucking bomber, i've worn the same shell for about 7 seasons on the east coast (i ski nearly every day during the season) and the jacket is still in awesome condition.

as for the actual query about snowboarding jackets, you might consider telling us what you are looking for in a jacket? what's important to you? there are a lot of jackets out there, and they're built with different people and different purposes in mind.
