Well I say it'd be too big for you. But then I've never heard of Cabelas let alone seen one so I'm not sure that was the quality of input you were looking for. That's my answer so now you've got one, hope you feel better now.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

I've got Patagonia's down jacket. Very Very warm. It also compresses into a pretty small stuff sack (good for packing). Its probably not as warm as the DAS parka, but its also not near as big (not too sure about weight)

So buy a f'ing North Face fleece

I've 2 patagucci a Fireball (overstuffed Puffball) that packs small. Way warm, like a sleeping bag for the torso (a -10F sleeping bag), and a DAS, even warmer, like a mummy bag for the waist up.

Reccomendation from Minneapolis. If she's going to be spending any time outside waiting for a bus or the like, buy a down coat. If she's going to be walking, get a shell/fleece combo.

As was mentioned before, wet snow is non-existant.

Patagonia came out with a new cut on the womens down jacket this year. It is much more tailored for a female body than the standard bulky squarish down jackets. If you are near a patagonia outlet they can be found for $139

The jacket would be for walking around campus with bulky clothes underneath, or for throwing over layers and a softshell for BC skiing or arctic days inbounds. Plus, I want something a little longer in terms of coverage.

Should I just go with the Tall Large or will it be way too freaking huge for me?

I have one of the cabela's down jackets in xl tall, its freakin huge and I'm taller and heavier than you, I should have got the large tall, great for going over layers but I look like the staypuft marshmallow man with it on. Get the medium tall, it should be fine.

EDIT- it depends on your desired level of steezyness, M for little to no steeze, L for steezarific, and XL for Steeztastic

I went with the Large Regular version. $35 for a down jacket can't be beat. Should be nice and steezy and be a nice layer for arctic bc days or just stuffing in the pack.
