ah ah ! i hated those, i skied them for 5 days. found them too small and too turny.... switched for a 194 (aha ! the one telenater recommended, but i still have..) also too turny, i found that the tip caught on too quick in wind crusted shite.i got rid of the 194 withing 15 riddin' days) i think they'll be my new telemark setup.

Fav skis? Haven't met them yet. But had a lot of fun ones over the past 30 years...

For sheer snow-hugging weight and stiffness: Head 360s (combined with Head Air boots and Burt retractable bindings, for a total of about 20 pounds per leg)

Unabashed 1970s hotdog trendiness: K2 Cheeseburgers (never did buy the "Fries" poles)

Best mogul skis for the lean back technique: Rossignol Exhibitions (the color alone was worth the price of admission)

Most unforgiving lawn darts: Fischer C4 Comps (the original Austrian Terminators)

Finest pow skis back when "thin was in": K2 255 Softs (technicolor noodles)

Coolest technology that never really worked: Hexcel Race (can't get enough of that honeycomb)

First modern skis: Salomon Xscreams (198 cm you girly skiers)

Best modern pow skis: That would be a snowboard

Most recent pawn shop specials: Salomon 1080s (Hey, they were cheap!)

(Plus about 50 other pairs of skis not worth mentioning.)

Blizzard Thermo SL. The quickest ski around in its day. I loved being a precocious kid on 200cm SL skis. And that Miami Vice teal color...that was so money.

Volkl Snow Ranger. The first midfat, the best midfat for about 5 years, and probably the most bomber ski of all time. My bases are half epoxy and they still have all their flex and camber. Hits that would explode any other ski have left only a tiny edge compression, and the layer of metal on the bottom means no core shots. These skis deserve a medal for all the battles I've put them through.

solly x-mountain- i also loved the snowrangers, but never owned a pair. x-mountains were the first ski i laid a trench, and floated the pow on. fun fun.

    New school= Igneous FaGS

Old School= Dynamic VR 17. The old brown ones with yellow letters. They were the first skis that gave me that serious G-force rush of a railing carved turn.

Honorable old school mention to the Winterheats.

@ 150# back then any ski 210cm or longer. float in the pow and on fire down the groom, bumps well that was another
story. Now I've been reduced to skis half the size. A mere shadow of my former self.

fav skis of recent memory: original coors topsheet model k2 threes, sold to me by ulty_guy. thanks again. they are so clutch for skiing icy moguls at seven springs, especially because they're only 178's. these define the phrase "beater skis" in my book, but are rad-i-cool because the bases have a coors logo on top of a rocky mountain backdrop. for some reason the coors skis are perfect on president's day weekend when i bust out the reversible blaze orange/treebark camo jacket, pants and mittens with the trigger finger hole.

older school favorite skis: power 8 salomon force 9, 3s. they were rad and cool because of the matching yellow rear entry boots. these skis officially signalled the end of the neon era for me, at least until neon becomes retro and cool once again. and when that day comes, i shall be ready...

I'll probably get flamed for this, but Olin Mark IV Comps. Great NOT because I think they were good skis, but great because I experienced so many firsts on them.

Those skis took me from perma-wedge skiing to hitting anything on the mountain (Mid-Atlantic mountains, heh, heh). With them, I experienced my first true powder day, my first trip out West, my first tree skiing run, and my first sampling of air.

Granted, the skis were complete noodles and couldn't hold an edge on hard snow to save their lives, but I just have so many good memories of times spent on them that I can't separate the memories from the skis.

Atomic ARC 225s--freshman year in college they learned me reel good on what i was still doing wrong and fixed it real quick.

AK rockets 200cm--my first fats. skied sooo much good snow on those. busticated em 2x. Sacrificed one half of the pair (snapped) to ullr (didn't work).

Iggy FC 195s 240RA. got them as a blem pair out of the factory for short money. my first igneous, got about 160 days on them but frikkin destroyed them. nothing like doing the traverse into the ronde while you're missing 12" of edge under each foot and dragging another 6" of edge like a busted muffler.

Iggy FFFs 190 240RA. steroids for your feet. once i had to retire the FCs they were my daily drivers for about 60 days.

    BONUS--favorite bindings:
When i was 11 i got a pair of 175 elan RCs with a pair of marker m26s (??) used out of the used gear section of my local shop. The bindings promptly broke (they were ALL plastic) so they replaced them with a pair of brand new look3d forzas (uber-day-glo) with a 4-10 din (identical binding to the zRaces except for the light spring). I've used them at least 1 day every season since then (12 and counting) on rock skis or something (they're currently on the FCs).

    Rossi ST Comp 195
    Spalding Squadra Course 205
    Spalding Sideral 205
    Kneissel White Star 210
    Head Free Species 198

My favorites based on the number of days skied, fun had, air taken, durability..... would have to be the 205 Volkl Renntiger Rs I got in 1985. I skied them for 12 years and they still had life.

My other favorites are my current touring (& only) skis Volkl G2.

Then- Honorable mentions - BD Savages, RD Coyote Softs
Fav- Elan DRCs 198cms of the stiffest damned foam core ski. Took my skiing to a whole nuther level (they would NOT go slow)
Now- Honorable mentions - Iggy Pinners, FaGS, 194 Arnos
    Fav- Big Daddies (ohhhh JEOMK)

BTW- indubitably the worst, lousiest, lamest, sketchiest, wimpiest ski I've been on in a decade were 01-02 XXXs

Great thread - how the original "Dynastar Omeglass" - I picked up a pair in a 190 still almost brand-new in a Denver pawn shop for $1 a couple years ago - remounted the bindings and they are still a joy to ski.

Favs - Cheap pair of 198 Head Lites from about 1984 that came as part of a package w/ solly 747 bindings. $199.00 for skis, boots & binders and, aside from the rear entry boots getting tossed after the first year, they made it over 700 days and 13 years. Not the best skis ever released, but I've now gone through 5 pairs in the last 5 years and nothing has come close to being as much fun.

I addition to the 207 K2 TNC I posted earlier, I'd like to also mention the 193 K2 Explorer. This was my first fat ski and gave me the first taste of carving long high speed turns in deep snow.
