Advice needed: crossing into Canada with a Dog

This has probably been covered, but Dog is too short a search term, so any help is appreciated. I'll be in Bellingham for the next couple weeks with my golden and want to take a couple days to visit friends in Vancouver and Calgary. Anything to know about driving across with a dog? paperwork needed? Thanks.

You are supposed to have a health certificate and certificate of vaccinations. The rabies shot has to have been given within the last 3 months. Some border guards are more lenient than others and may not ask for anything, but you have to have the papers in case.

It's super easy. I do it all the time both ways. Just have the paperwork for shots from your local vet. I've never had them ask, but better safe then sorry!

Puppies (under 3 or 6 months depending on who asks) don't need rabies. A health cert is for airlines. I almost never was asked (in hundreds of trips). If you and the dog look respectable then you're good to go.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Yup, easy, never known them to ask, but probably best to have the proof of rabies shot with you.

My gf and I cross the border with our dogs every couple of months. I have never had to show my papers for either of the dogs. I think if the dog is under 6 months you don't have to have proof of any shots because they are to young, I am pretty sure thats what my gf said

Dog under three months, free and clear. Over that as said above has to have certificate of rabies shot in last 12months or certificate stating rabies shot good for 3 years given in the last 3 years. Easy as pie really.

I see above says 6 months for free and clear, pretty sure it's only 3 but could be wrong and your dog looks older anyway (barely)
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

I don't know about going north, but coming back into the US you are required to have proof of current rabies vaccination. That means a Health Certificate (over kill) or a rabies vaccination certificate from a veterinarian. Other vaccinations are not required, but you should have them in a pup anyway. Rabies for most states is after 3 months of age (4 in California, I don't know why we always have to be different.) First rabies vaccine is good for one year, three years after that. Except in Texas where it is yearly, and for some stupid reason, Denver.

A health certificate is required for livestock, and if you are selling animals across the boarder.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
