Question Rozerem - anyone had good results?

The night before a day of skiing, fishing, whatever good times await, I have trouble sleeping. My brain is going and thinking about the next day. Sometimes I only get an hour of sleep. I can literally go to bed at 11pm and toss and turn until 5am... fucking sucks. I quit drinking a few years back so that's out. I did get some Rozerem from my doctor a while back but I've not tried it yet. Anyone used this with solid sleep as a result?

I took Rozerem for about a year. Its effectiveness for me is difficult to quantify as I was in the midst of some major sleep issues. My sleep did improve during the duration, but it's tough to peg that improvement on the Rozerem. One thing good about it--it's not "narcoticy" at all. You certainly don't feel 'drugged' when you take it, nor do you feel out of it the next day. So, from that standpoint, I can pretty much guarantee that taking the Rozerem isn't going to hurt.

From what I understand, Roz is less prescribed for episodic insomnia (like what you describe) and more prescribed with people with more chronic issues (the Rozerem is supposed to get your internal clock back on track). It sounds like to me your problem with sleep is tied to episodic anxiety/excitement. Given what I know of my own sleep issues, I would suggest taking something like Xanax or Valium in a very limited fashion--just enough to ease the anxiety, but not enough to "knock you out" or to make you feel out of it the next day. (I actually think I get better sleep via this method than by taking Lunesta/Ambien.)

    Paxil.
I'm on the lowest clinical dose of 20mgs.
The only problem with SSRI's is DON'T SKIP DOSES.
    No longer stuck.

I should clarify: I didn't mean to imply that you should take Xanax, etc., on daily or regular basis (dependency baaaaaaad). But, it really helps if you are in a situation where you know your anxiety might keep you up--i.e., the night before a big day of skiing, fishing or whatever. I take it as a preemptive measure if I know I'm going to have a busy day at the office, if I have an early flight, etc.

I started taking melatonin a few years ago to help with sleep problems. You can pick it up at vitamin cottage for like 10 bucks for a 100, cheap. I has worked for me. Not a complete knockout but help the sleep I do get to be more productive. Rarely wake up feeling drowsy and I still get up early for work.

I never tried anything else besides booze. Being a pilot the choices are a little more limited and going to a doctor is almost out of the question.

I had similar issues a while back. No sleep before a big day (work, skiing, whatever). I also cover all 4 time zones so my body clock was "off schedule" on a regular basis. Tried melatonin first and didn't like it. It gave me CRAZY dreams which ultimately lead me to have a less restful night of sleep. Now I use Ambien. It is not "narcoticy" either and I do not feel out of it or drugged in any wat the day after. I get a solid 6 hours of sleep and am then wide awake and ready to go.

Might not help as your question was about Rozerem specifically but if it doesn't work out, try Ambien.

Rozerem is the first and only prescription sleep medication that has shown no evidence of abuse and dependence and, as a result, has not been designated as a controlled substance by the DEA. Wonderful sleeping aid!
