    TR: Whiteface Slides 4/6

Photoslutting some pictures of a great day lapping the slides at Whiteface yesterday.

If you have never had the opportunity, check it out! Some of the best lift assisted terrain in the east. Yesterday was a bluebird corn harvest in the High Peaks. Incredible skiing!! All of you across L. Champlain that never have made the journey over to Whiteface owe it to yourselves on a good powder or corn day. When Whiteface sucks, it is an exercise in windblown ice skating but when it is good, never go below mid mountain and lap up steep lap after lap.

Access open to slides from summit quad, skiing anyone?

What a day for ripping turns

Looks awesome. I'm gonna head up tomorrow, what kind of restrictions do they have on the slides right now?

    Having never skied at whiteface...
... what is the draw of the slides? They are only open certain times correct... making them "off limits" most of the time? Steepness? Uniqueness of terrain?

They do look fun, but not spectacular. I guess I don't understand why everyone thinks its the kitten's mittens.

Sorry, just saw this morning. It depends if the summit quad is running today and they open the slides. Here is the link to Whiteface's info:

XtrPickels, the appeal of the slide is 2000' of steep skiing. Slides are unique terrain in the east that usually take a long bushwack approach even before climbing up the slide to ski it. We have limited alpine and above treeline terrain. Big wide open spaces are not the norm.

    Noice.

I was over at Whiteface for a few days during the first week of March, hoping to get laps in on the Slides. Unfortunately, the summit quad wasn't spinning when I was there, and I was stuck with ice, err corduroy. From your pics, things are looking pretty nice right now.

Thanks for the pics. The Whiteface Slides and the Sugarloaf Snowfields are two of those inbounds-backcountry experiences that we have in the East. It takes a lot of snow to get them open and when they do, you gotta go before they disappear. I should make it out to Whiteface someday. Those Slides look interesting.

Started up at 6am. Was off the resort trails before they opened. Dug a pit and all was well. Slayed.
