    Big Sky Ski Rentals?

Hey, with Northwest implementing a $50 oversize bag fee...I'm thinking of perhaps simply renting skis at Big Sky. Anyone know of a decent shop and/or any deals/coupons...general advice.

We wanted to rent out those big fat skis that the extreme skiers use.

    Thanks for your halp!

Is it going to cost you more or as much to rent/demo? If it is, would you feel more comfy on your own skis? Just a thought.... And has Northworst put that oversize bag fee into effect yet?

my buddy had a good experience demoing a pair from Gallitan Sports in the meadows on the way up to the hill. I'm sure there are gooder or better places but he had a good experience and I think it was something like $35 for the day.

I never rent but I know that there is a place not listed right on the highway that has rentals for $20. It's name has "East" in it but I can't remember the whole name. If you are coming trhough Bozo there are more options, like Ph. Skis. You could even give ptex1 a call in Billings for a real deal.

I'd recommend Chalet in Bozeman. I'm less familiar with the places down the canyon.

Yeah, northwest has put the policy in effect and it would be cheaper to bring own skis, but kind of a hassle too. You have a point though about being comfy on own skis... My kid's skis might be kind of noodly for BigSky though. His quiver is mainly race skis, his only all-mtn skis are my old rock skis.

Maybe I'll just bring our skis and if his don't work out for some reason I can rent him sumthin...

Mad Wolf's been there forever. Brad, the owner, is one solid dude and great fishing guide too. The cool people like Grizzly. Both are in the meadow, great if you're coming up in the morning from Bozo. If you do the midnight cruise, then rent at the mountain from Lone Mountain Sports, in the little mall to the left as you look up at the mountain.

We're doing the morning cruise on Thursday a.m. so could just stop off in a place on the drive up. Looking forward to taking in the morning scenery actually!

I appreciate the 411. I did a search but it's always good to get a recommendation from someone..
    Thanks!

    Hey sprite,
i worked at lone mtn. sports (right at the base) a few seasons back. Great group of guys, Scott the owner will take care of you if you want to demo this years gear. the first floor is the rental shop, the top tier rentals were all last years demos. they will be more than willing to exchange skis as conditions change or you decide to ski different terrain. best bet is to get in there after the morning "rush" and before the afternoon returns come in, 10 - 2 would be ideal. i would stay away from big sky sports, the resorts rental shop, as they will be least inclined to work with you. Most of the other shops mentioned both in Big Sky and bozeman are good folks as well. iam just a little biased

wait, my dad just came in on NWA and didn't mention paying an over size fee. That's weird.
    No longer stuck.

I would 2nd that opinion. LMS is to me the best shop in Big Sky. The others (GAS, Grizzly etc are also good, but there has to be one BEST)

And at LMS you may get to meet the legends of Big Sky. Barry, Clarky, Fast Eddie, Neener, Jimbo, Ordean! The list goes on and on. All have been in Big Sky for years and all have worked for and keep working for Scooter, year after year.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

    UPS Ground

For $50 you might be able to box up your skis and send them UPS Ground. Then they are guaranteed to arrive and you don't have to worry about carrying them to/from the airport.

    Lucky!! Wish I was going!!

Renting at BS isn't a bad idea if you have an attachment to your gear. Every time I come back - even when conditions are IDEAL - I usually have a lot of basework that has to be done. Last time it cost me almost $100.

FWIW, NWA just instituted their policy at the end of last week - Thursday or Friday...

Is there a BRO demo center anywhere near there? If so, maybe Ms. Sprite can get a ripping deal on rentals.

no bro demo center in the area that i know of, but that would be sick--i would definitly reccommend lone mountain sports, scott has always hooked me up with lots of demos and good deals on gear!!
