Just when you thought summer was in full swing in the Canadian Rockies, Mother Nature decided to throw a curveball. Banff Sunshine Village in Alberta shared images on July 10 showing a classic winter scene, as unseasonable flakes brought winter back to the high alpine.
The resort’s social media channels posted a live webcam shot around midday showing a fresh blanket of snow on the upper reaches of Goat’s Eye Mountain.
“Meanwhile on the top of Goat’s Eye… Yep, this is a LIVE shot from our webcam taken at 12:26 on Thursday, July 10th,” the resort shared, confirming the mid-summer surprise.

While snow is a rarity for Banff in July, which typically sees highs around 66°F (19°C), it’s not completely unheard of at Sunshine’s lofty elevation of 8,957 feet. This marks the second notable summer flurry in recent weeks. A similar event was also recorded in August of last year.
Although the lifts have been closed to the public since May 20, some might recall the resort reopening for Canada Day turns back in 2023 thanks to a massive surplus of snow.
