TR: BAKER 10.4.07 The one you were waiting for.
Sometimes things just seem to happen perfectly. Yesterday was one of those days. Forecasts for days had said nothing but snow for the Cascades and my swollen knee told me something was happening...but the question remained: what was really going on above 6000 feet? Perhaps there was only one way to find out.
After getting pumped on some photos from Zbo's trip last weekend, I contacted fellow maggot Lani and we arranged to meet at Bigfoot Coffee at 320 am on Friday. Lani wasn't able to make it but I managed to meet up with Dave in Seattle along with Zbo, Jason Hummel and 2 others whose names must have slipped from the long hours of exhaustion that have come with 36 hours of no sleep.
I left straight from Dante's 2 dollar pitchers at about 1 am and picked up dave and we headed north. We managed to skin after a short hike on snow at about 3900 feet. I was destined to ski back to the car, so was Jason.
The snow just started piling up... we really had no idea how much there was going to be. Every 1000 feet the snowpack literally doubled and by the time we made it to the col at 9500 feet I had difficulty even guessing how much it snowed. Five...ten? Twenty? Two-hundred? feet. The upper mountain was appropriately stacked with snow and many of the crevasses had filled in nicely, allowing for an exceptionally epic ski. Winds were relatively calm, and we are stoked to ski amazing powder at such high alpine exposed terrain. When we were heading up the pumice ridge, Dave triggered a small slough which was indicative of what lie ahead, besides there actually was wind above the col, causing us to click in about 100 feet up the pumice ridge at 9550. As you can see from the pictures it was retarded. Jason and I skied X-streamly well back to the car. Total vertical with small side tour skied: 6000 almost exactly. Fuck off.

The Twin Sisters' Range from Heliotrope Ridge. Filthy.
Looking back down Heliotrope.
A quick detour. Heliotrope Ridge.
Moving on up. Coleman Glacier.
Now what?
Well, I don't think this one is going to get covered.
Thats nice.
Ok, this is all great, but let's ski now.
We have began negotiations.
Jason.
The others.
Are we still skiing?
This mountain is had, let's go home.
After, we headed to Rudy's and got several 3.50 pitchers of Pabst and two large amazingly delicious pizzas. One had red peppers and chicken, the other ham and pineapple. Very good. Very nice. October?Last edited by powdherb; 10-06-2007 at 03:54 PM.

I knew Friday was going to be the day. Zbo probably sensed it like a shark smelling blood in the water.
My jealousy on Thursday night had to be apparant!
We didn't want to miss out entirely so Lani and I played a make up game today. Still great powder to be had, but no bluebird in sight (light snow & clouds).
WA Represent! Early October - hellz yeah!

I can't think of a time I have ever seen more awe-inspiring scenics on this site. I normally try to slam my friend's work but these pics took it all out of me. Well played.
Furthermore, I am hereby requesting a complete version of this trip report, including circumstances preceeding and following the ski.
