Cool Cnd Rockies 1st pow TR - Oct. 5/07

Well, no turns in September this year, but today more than made up for it. Cold powder, blue skies and views to die for.

At the insistence of my brother Eldereldo we headed out early this morning to see if recent snow would be enough to kick off the season for us.

Since the snowline has been high so far this autumn, our best bet was up the Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper - perhaps the most scenic road in North America.

There was a distressing lack of snow down low, but where we ended up there was plenty of snow as soon as you climbed above the highway.

Fresh snow overnight and then the skies cleared when we started skinning up.

    Views were kinda amazing.

They also made for a nice backdrop to a couple of low angle warm up runs.

But EE had his eye on the upper slopes.

Apparently he knew what he was talking about.

Still a relatively shallow snowpack, but if you stuck to the right lines it was safe and sweet.

This was so worth getting up for at 5:30 this morning.

But all good things must come to an end.

We were almost able to ski back to the car but the snow down low was melting from the sun.

On the drive back we stopped to take a few pretty pix.

Unfortunately temps are going to climb big time the next few days and a lot of that perfect snow is going to disappear.

Oh well, today should hold us for a while.

I looked at that on my way back home on Wednesday, it looked a little boney down low and it was hard to tell up high. I guess I know now.
Move along nothing to see here.

Way to get after it. I was going to ask last night who was going to get some out of last nights storm but couldn't access the board for some reason. My question just got answered.

The Icefields Parkway has to be one of the most aesthetically unpleasing drives on the planet. God I hate the Canadian Rockies.

When I posted this I was thinking that it's too bad f2f is not in the country yet because I bet he would have wanted to come along.

And hey Redskea, I thought that you might already be at Silverstar hiking for turns in all their snow. Let us know where you will be when everything gets sorted out.
