Apparently the snow reports at LL are now being randomly generated by a computer program, because the "trace of new" turned out to be the best closing weekend powder day I've ever had at the resort. Pow, blue skies and almost no one there in the morning.
Since patrol had their hands full doing control work on the backside, we were forced to do some runs on TOTW for a while.
A classic view looking down at TOTW lift with Lake Louise in the background and soon to be schralped pow in the foreground.
Smooth and creamy snow for April.
WH1 and Boomerang looking good in the distance.
Waited at the sign for any Maggots to show but bailed at 10:10 when patrol dropped the rope on the backside. Great run down ER7 dodging the avy debris then up Paradise chair.
Paradise Bowl waiting to be ravaged.
Ravaging commenced.
Hearing that the WH2 gullies were about to open, it was time to head up Summit.
Best coverage ever in the gullies this season. Even the rocky spines are doable.
Mach snell.
North Face with ER6 looming above. Unfortunately most of ER6 had slid.
By the time the rope dropped on Boomerang it was afternoon and the snow was just starting to get zapped by the sun.
People doing the mad dash along Boomer ridge towards Brown Shirt etc.
An untracked line at 12:15 on April 28. Not bad.
Skiers and snowboarders living together in peace. It was a feel good kind of day.![]()
By 2 p.m. the powder was mostly pooched.
Went back to the Lake on Sunday to meet up with some Maggots. Although first runs were total frozen crap, it snowed hard all day and things just kept getting better. It was great to make turns again with Redskea, who drove straight from Heavenly to catch the miniest mini Summit ever.
No photos from Sunday because the viz was mostly brutal, but what a great finish to an awesome season at the Lake. (Still open Monday and Tuesday, but that's it for me.)
We may hate the the way LL is run, but the skiing make it all worthwhile.![]()
