If you like Scapa, you'll love Highland Park.

    another scotch thread, yay!

i can add a bit of bowmore to the mix: they have the cheap one for 19.99 around here, so we use it for mouthwash

this also marks the day random drug/alcohol testing is instituted at my workplace. i'll drink to that!

    Freak'n Scotch snob.

When I was at the liquor store the other day I was looking for Caol Ila after seeing the picture you posted in another thread. But I couldn't find it. I may not look so hard next time, after finding this:

    http://www.islaywhiskysociety.com/caol_ila/index.html

"Caol Ila is considered to be one of the lighter of the Islays. It is described as tasting slighty of seaweed/iodine..."

    mmmmmmmm sounds tasty.

don't knock it until you've tried it. 18yo, preferably, if you can spare the 60 bucks it's worth.

islays are an acquired taste. but as long as snobbery acusations are being thrown, i should perhaps take a picture of the fine cognacs we have in store

There are plenty of secrets shared amongst Maggots, but this is one that us Brits are quite proud of - Berry Brothers & Rudd.

If you ever happen to be in London then a trip down to St James' to their shop is a good thing to do - very old school.

I once bought a bottle of the muddy water of Scotland for my father from there. I notice they also have a US icon on the website so hopefully they can produce the goods for you guys too.

    Lagavulin 16 = $$$$$

Another new one I tried recently is the Glenlivet Nadurra also stellar

The Glenlivet’s singular enthusiasm for sharing with you the most authentic Scotch-drinking experience has resulted in The Glenlivet Nadurra. Nadurra is a small batch, unique single malt bottled at natural cask strength (over 57% alcohol by volume) and aged for a minimum of sixteen years in first-fill American oak casks.
Short of becoming Master Distiller, Nadurra is the closest you can come to drinking straight from a cask at The Glenlivet Distillery. Unlike most Scotch, Nadurra is non chill-filtered, resulting in a slight cloudiness with the addition of water - a traditional and perfectly natural effect.

    undergoing a phase change.

Way back when, I had a chance to visit The Glenlivet's distillery. What a beautiful setting. Love the Scotish Country side. I'm not much for Scotch Whiskey but did sample some Blue Label Johnny Walker once that was quite good for this Scotch Jong.

BTW... The Oban Distillery burnt down last year, so buy a few while you can find it if you enjoy this scotch.

OK, it's bourbon, but damn good and little known. On the left, your basic Henry McKenna, under $10 at the East Side Liquor Store in Flagstaff, on your right, their special reserve, around $24.
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

+1 for Ardbeg. I like 'em strong and smoky. It's a nice alternative to Lagavulin and cheaper too. (at least where I come from).

    Got a bottle for housewarming.
