Strange... I saw one on Friday also, having a meal. Looks like the same species. The backyard was eerily quiet while it was there. I took a few grainy pics. Will post em later.

OK. Not quite a hawk but close... and cool.

I got it in an E-mail that went like this:

An administrative assistance at Vail Resorts took these photos while snowshoeing. These are incredible photos and that non-professional took them makes them even more amazing. I'm assuming the fox got away if the photos are viewed in the order that the numbers are in the name.

Jesus, way to hijack the thread, FZ. Those pictures are fucking amazing! I can only imagine what the photographer was thinking when the fox got away and the eagle was facing him.

The hawk picture is awesome too but sort of pales by comparison.

Don't know for sure as it was from a fwd'd E-mail. But if the writing is correct and the photographer was from Vail I'm assuming somewhere in Eagle county, CO which is where Vail / Beaver Creek is. Looks like the E originated from someone at comcast.com.

Didn't mean to hijack but when I saw it I thought of this thread as a semi-related place to put it up.

I was thinking it might be in Foxtown or Carcassville, but Eagle County is a good guess too.

BOSTON (AP) -- A student touring Fenway Park was attacked by a resident red-tailed hawk that drew blood from a girl's scalp Thursday.
The girl was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but wasn't seriously injured.
The hawk was perched on a railing in the upper deck behind home plate while the group from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn., toured the stadium. The hawk flew at the girl and swooper with its talons extended, scratching her scalp.
A single egg lay in the hawk's nearby nest in an overhang near the stadium's press booth.
The nest and egg were removed at the direction of state wildlife officials.

Hawk Attacks Schoolgirl Taking Tour of Fenway Park

BOSTON -- A 13-year-old girl touring Fenway Park on a school trip was attacked by a resident red-tailed hawk that drew blood from her scalp Thursday.

She wasn't seriously hurt, but some observers saw an omen for a certain New York Yankees slugger in the attack at the home of the Boston Red Sox. The girl's name is Alexa Rodriguez.

Vince Jennetta, a teacher who chaperoned her class trip from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn., told The Boston Globe that Alexa is "a little shaken, but OK."

The hawk was perched on a railing in the upper deck behind home plate while the group toured the stadium. The hawk flew at the girl and swooped with its talons extended, scratching her scalp.

A single egg lay in the hawk's nearby nest in an overhang near the stadium's press booth.

The nest and egg were removed at the direction of state wildlife officials.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.
