Animals stuffed with other animals

It is occasionally claimed that the ancient Roman, as well as medieval cooks stuffed animals with other animals. An anonymous Andalusian cookbook from the 13th century includes a recipe for a ram stuffed with small birds (recipe). A similar recipe for a camel stuffed with sheep stuffed with bustards stuffed with carp stuffed with eggs is mentioned in T.C. Boyle's book Water Music.

The turducken, a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken is a more recent creation.

im sorry but those things just look nasty.
by the time the chicken actually gets cooked, the turkey is going to be beyond dried out. and if you dont get it cooked enough its just a big pile of salmonella.

the duck skin, which when roasted until crispy is like the bacon of the fowl world is only going to be cooked with moist heat and is like chewing rubber.

and my main reason for posting in this important thread:

while stuffing is tasty, it should be prepared on the side. do not stuff your bird. the stuffing is like a big sponge that is going to suck the moisture from your bird. it extends the cooking time, leads to dryer birds (both by extending the cook time and sucking the juice out) and is a serious food safety risk.

Fez, I must respectfully disagree with you. We had turducken at a party last December and it was fan-fucking-delicious. I did not succumb to the violent throes of salmonella poisoning (but perhaps the level of alcohol I consumed killed any rogue strains).

It was so good in fact, that I tossed aside my normally demure and reserved eating techniques to go all primal on that shit and eat about half the sucker before they realized what I was doing and pulled me off.

Yeah, animals stuffed with animals are very good. Can't wait to try some por-eef-amb soon.

Willy I went to BHP but didnt get there till 615, fucking traffic. So I sketchily drank beers by myself for a half hour and looked at people like some sort of cannibal trying to find anyone who had change for a nickel. How crowded will Killington be?
