TR Pictures: Stowe, VT. Oct 30

Cannot explain in words just how much snow is sitting high on Mount Mansfield. No action pics as I was alone all day, but the woods are skiable in October...in the east. Water bars and open water areas from Saturday's rain were the main problem, but everything is skiable.

On the way up, I took a couple quick pics of various others descending middle Nosedive:

Couldn't resist a warm-up run of the top half of ND.

    Back up to the Octagon.

Then down Starr on the rarely skiable right side before heading left and into the trees.

    Looking down Starr.

Over to National then across Midway. Lots of traffic on National.

Passed up an untracked lower Goat to try and get up to the Gondi side before I had to leave.

At the old(?) pumphouse on Midway.

Back up ND to Rim Rock to Cliff Trail. Very difficult going on Rim Rock trying to skin through the swamp that is the top of the Nosedive Glades with a few feet of snow mixed in with a lot of open water. Had to go down the untracked, but low angled Cliff Trail. Could be worse.

    Cliff Trail

isnt this better than last year peak season? also why dont they just make some snow at the bottom and turn on the lifts.

Haha....I thought the same thing...the cover is good, but not that good. Start sending hundreds of people down and it'll be down to dirt real quick. Plus there's only a light couple inches at the bottom, and its been warm down there.

They still have November 18 listed as "Projected Opening for 06/07 Ski & Snowboard Operations". Yikes.

I've never heard of anyone getting bitched at about hiking any resort around here pre-season. Especially not MRG.

Yeah! We've been having a blast over there too! Sunday PM was the best so far - here's a video:

    Stowe 10-29-06
    ...That was on nosedive.

Yesterday AM (10/30) did Waterfall & Chinclip.

Just got back from a dawn patrol this AM (10/31) - did the headwalls of Starr, Liftline & Goat, & then ripped Goat down to lower Nosedive and headed out. There's an inversion - it's 45F on the summit, but about 33F at my house in Montpelier. Get it before it melts!
