Cool Vid TR: Powder Maggot Feeding Frenzy 12/31/05

Please 'Save As' to your hard drive to save on bandwidth:

    Colorado Powder Frenzy Video

Enjoy. Couple of good beaters in there as well as a hidden mic clip at the end (sorry RJ, I could't resist ) May be slightly NSFW towards the end.

Was a nice soulful day with some good friends. The energy was high and the snow was top quality.

Several inches here, several inches there stacks up real nice when it comes to the backcountry. While other western states have been getting a mix of rain/sleet/freezing rain/graupel/snow/iced shit/etc., the Colorado high hills have been cashing in. I'll take 6-10" per day anytime. Big dumps and high winds make things too unstable anyway.

A good 24" of blower has piled up over the past few days in and around Eagle County. The strong SW-W flows always seem to give this area a little more than other zones. We trudged over 9 miles and logged a few thousand vert the first day and found some amazing snow. The next day brought some ultra light density blower via high winds and a strong SW flow. Tracks were filled in from lap to lap.

    You guys are gapers.
You ski like Junior High School posers in the backseat.
    Your hucks are lame.
    You turn too much.
    You don't pole plant enough.
    You hiked to far.
    You didn't hike far enough.
    Your jackets are too bright.
    Your a dumb knuckle dragger.
    Your a useless AT skier.
You didn't show any tele skiers.
You skied a sketch slope without including footage of the pit you didn't dig.
    The sun wasn't shining.
    The download was too slow.
    The resolution wasn't high enough.
    You shot digi, not 16mm.
    You shot 4:3, not 16:9
And on and on and on.................................

There, got it all out for everyone.

Nice work iski, liked the tunes and the turns. Your Colorado playground looks quite fun.

    HA! Hey asshhole, you forgot:

    The terrain was boring
There was no drama (photog poaching, etc. )
    The terrain was too flat
    There's no jibbing
Too much footage of people hiking
    Too many scenic shots
    Not enough skiing
    Not enough snowboarding
PSIA would laugh at your form
    You're waving your dick
Why don't you just ride the lifts?
This download was a waste of my time
    The music sucks
    You suck
    etc.

    Nice shots.

Were you guys setting a boot/skin track and coming right back up to the ridge?

Did I see some L-pass shots in there too?

We hit Berthoud yesterday - great touring with top notch powder below treeline. Even the lower stuff is getting filled in.

hey, send some of that down South for me ok???

I'm hoping to hit up Red Mountain Pass this weekend. I met some potential bc partners in a couple of mountaineering shops here today. Hopefully it's good.

Closer to Durango, the storm that was supposed to drop 10 inches yesterday and today didn't materialize. It went North.

    Nice work Dave.
